Re: List cloggers.....who are they?
Easier to come from the other direction in my view, and that includes:-
Hickey
Carlisle
Steven
Gresham
Ross
Dunstan
Acres
Steele
Freeman
Billings
Roberton
Longer
Gilbert
Armitage
Goddard
Battle
Bruce
Membrey
White
Mc Cartin
Sinclair
Then you look at structure and identify the needs.
And, of the above list, who have we added in 2017?
That is where the stagnating comes from.

Half of your list are players who can't get a regular game playing senior football for one reason or another. To the top wrote:Easier to come from the other direction in my view, and that includes:-

Re: List cloggers.....who are they?
Please be more specific in the labelling. Apparently there are now, "primary list cloggers" and "fringe list cloggers". Who belongs in which category is important. Primaries deny development of young players by remaining in the team, while fringers just take up list space. Hope this helps.
I think you're pretty tough, don't I?

Yet instead we've decided to keep Gilbert.fugazi wrote:Clearly Lonie, Weller and Wright.
I for one hope Monty stays for another year.
Even if he plays mostly seconds or moves into a Sam Mitchell player/coach role for 2018.
He is the last of the successful core from 2009/10 and the group could still use his leadership and professionalism.
Look at North this year bereft of their leaders.
Kill. Me.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Here's a chart I have created for people to arrange their clogginess into.
Red - Key Back
Brown - Medium Backs
Orange - Attacking Backs
Yellow - Midfield
Green - Rucks
Blue - Medium Forwards
Purple - Small Forwards
Black - Key Forwards
Inside represents core future-proof players, outer rims represent clog variance.
discuss.

Re: List cloggers.....who are they?
Dragit, I did not say everyone of those players would be in our game day 22 in any particular week
Simply, in my opinion, they are the players I would put "Required" alongside
So there are considerations such as the need for 2 of our rucks to be included etc etc
Of the others, some are returning from injury and some are there on potential
If you want to cut it back to those we should retain from the side that represented St Kilda yesterday, and retain those players only then go ahead
But if that is the criteria then the Club would fold because we would not have a player to put on the park

To be fair we would have 21 players on the park as only Riewoldt will be missing next year.To the top wrote:If you want to cut it back to those we should retain from the side that represented St Kilda yesterday, and retain those players only then go ahead

I guess what I am saying is that with only a handful of games between them this year… Hickey, Freeman, Armitage, Goddard & McCartin all need to be playing some decent senior football next year, otherwise they are absolutely clogging the list.

Re: List cloggers.....who are they?
Colour chart of possible round one 2018 side - all named are red, white and black to their Fortius's; it seems a pretty good core set of players in my one eyed view and all the better for the character building 2017 season. The ? marks are TBA so coloured Pink - for lets get this party started. Good coaching is assumed.

Webster Carslisle White
Acres Ross Sinclair
Billings McCartin ?
Membrey ? Gresham

Spot on Greg - point is we have so many we need departments..., but do tell us all how we get rid of them all year 1?? I'm intrigued...GregPackhamsHeadband wrote:Please be more specific in the labelling. Apparently there are now, "primary list cloggers" and "fringe list cloggers". Re: List cloggers.....who are they?
Gilbert Goddard xxxxxxx
Roberton Carlisle (Captain) White
Freeman Armitage xxxxxxxx
Billings Bruce xxxxxxxx
Gresham Mc Cartin Membrey
Hickey Acres Steven
Steele Sinclair Ross xxxxxxxx
Allowing for no injuries - and form!!!
Not too sure on all of Dunstan, Ross and Steele to compliment Armitage (at least one of that three is going to need some sprint coach input).
Each of the xxxxxx's require pace and precision with the ball, adding to potency and pressure.

Re: List cloggers.....who are they?
I would keep Savage as a required player,
he has been dropped a year ago and worked his way back,
got dropped this year and again worked his ring off to get back and is better than ever.
If someone can learn and develop, and be valuable, they're the goods, in my book.
Keep Randy Macho Man Savage.

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: List cloggers.....who are they?
The following players, for one reason or another simply do not consistently play anywhere near the standard that we think they should
*** some of these guys are top 22
Armitage
Wright
Weller
Holmes
Pierce
Savage
Minchington
Newnes
Webster
Hickey
Longer
That is the group where I'd try to make some serious movement if I could... not all of them (from top 22) but there's too much of... player x is so much better than that going on there
You can add to that Paddy, Goddard, DMac, Long, Freeman and Lonie but IMO it's too soon to really tell on these kids

It isn't just one ordinary season.
He has had 6 ordinary seasons and one good season.
Last year was the anomaly for Mav.
He can't play back. Can't play mid.
53 goals from 108 games proves he is not a fwd either.
People need to get real. The club is happy to promote and market VFL players like Mav.
Mav is a blue collar player and needs to play like a rabid dog at AFL level.
Instead the club has allowed him to coast and play like he is Peter Daicos. He isn't.

Agree we all know who can't get a game but many of the guys in our top 22 battle along also so we need to be serious and ruthless if we are going to get better
