Gaff?
Heard that the Saints might be interested in getting Gaff from the Eagles. Gets lots of possessions but lots of them cheap dinky handballs and not sure if he would be good value.
Thoughts?

Re: Gaff?
Gaff may be a sheepdog, but he uses the ball well, which is something sadly lacking in our midfield.
I would prefer him on a wing to Newnes or Savage, who just seem to bomb it long into the forward line without much thought.

Gets a lot of the ball and has a massive tank, but does NOT use the ball well.darylcowie wrote:Gaff may be a sheepdog, but he uses the ball well, which is something sadly lacking in our midfield.

Extremely hit and miss and we have enough of those already.
Look at last weeks replay. Think it was 3rd quarter, tries to hit a team mate barely 20m away. Scrubbed it along the turf.
Give me one flag & I'll go to my grave a happy man.

Re: Gaff?
Why bloody not take him. He's better than some of the players in our best 22. Averages 30 possies a game. Only 25 and from Melbourne. Pick 4 in 2010. In 2015 was club champion and named AA on a wing. Made AA squad in 2016.
He is a quality player. Anyone that says he isn't is very selective in what they see of him. Will only add to our midfield.

Re: Gaff?
Said who? I think it was just a suggestion from Brad Hardie in a WA article.supersaints wrote:They want pick 8 and Acres for him..... big pass
Saints won't involve Acres. He's on the verge of being very good after 4 years of dev.

Re: Gaff?
They are putting Gaff on the trade table to get something to get in a speedy outside player with good ball use.............................. Isn't that what we are after and obvious what gaff isn't if there moving him on to get it?

Re: Gaff?
Yes thats a radical trading plan and could keep the Eagles contending if it were at all possible in the real world - maybe we could trade Armo for say pick 9 and Stringer or something like that - I think 'radical' trades like that will really help us stay competitive next yearparkeysainter wrote:https://thewest.com.au/sport/west-coast ... b88602637z

We have no idea what WCE would actually be happy with.

Re: Gaff?
He's quality.
All-Australian squad two years running, B&F winner.
Doesn't have sublime skills but plays outside. We lack outside run and carry. We lack quality midfielders. Gaff is quality.
He's not elite but he's A-grade.
I would trade him for pick 8.
Putting it another way, if pick 8 turned into an All-Australian, B&F winner who was likely to play 100+ games for the Saints, you'd take it. Gaff can do that for us.

Re: Gaff?
Think Brian Waldron said that's what they would want , but I could be mistaken as I was busy with the radio in the background.realdeal wrote:Brad Hardie wants something like pick 8 and Acres..supersaints wrote:They want pick 8 and Acres for him..... big pass
( And I know Waldron comes up with some crap)
Of course I would oppose gettting rid of Acres he just about has the best possible upside on our list , he could end up anything. if we let him go we are crazy IMO
Clubs always seem to try to bend us over at trade time , hopefully Bain's and Trout would only get Gaff if it was on our side if the ledger. Fact is at this stage we don't have a second round draft pick.. third round won't get anyone ,
I've said pass from the start .. to me it's like the Goldstein Billings swap ... definitely a no from me

That values Gaff as a pick 19 or so.

Re: Gaff?
Is this true?supersaints wrote:They want pick 8 and Acres for him..... big pass
He was a top 10 pick 7 years ago. But he has 3-4 top years maybe ( crystal ball stuff).
But I have all along said stuff it - stuff the FA stuff the war chest just use the draft picks and we have a damn sweet chance with 2 picks that one could ripen real quick and be goer. I am so tired of trading picks for players or future players. Why we didnt pursue TOM last year I just don't know.
