Not good.
I think you'd find every club plays players who aren't 100% fit during the season. My main with it would be were we missing out on getting some games into some of the younger players. I guess the people in charge of selection have to balance it out while giving us the best chance of winning each week.
My concern here is that we’re not talking about players playing with a few niggles...

But serious game time into those that can’t give 100%. That to me is a big no no... especially when you have others fighting to get in.

Affects speed and therefore decision-making time, and confidence, which spirals downwards to lead to poor decisions. You’re an intelligent guy so I’m sure you know this.
Sure.
But that isn't what was happening with him.

So ankle injury somehow made him repeatedly ignore his own team mates, refuse to move the ball on and hold up play so he could get more camera time. Frequently run backwards looking for opposition players so he could 'take them on' then made him hungry to keep kicking points?

More camera time? You're probably serious!

Mav is very marketable.
The middle-aged ladies love him, they see him as a strong loyal son or nephew.

Doesn't matter how he plays, marketing has the final say.
We should recruit Jamie Durie or Channing Tatum.
Their bums will get bums on seats

In Jan 2017 3km time trial, the placings were:-

1. Geary
2. McKenzie
3. Phillips
4. Freeman
5. Weller
6. Ross
7. Newnes

On 1 Dec. 2017

3km Time-Trial December 1:

1. Jarryn Geary
2. Ed Phillips
3. Seb Ross
4. Mav Weller
5. Jack Sinclair/Sam Gilbert

So, looks like Freeman has dropped off (maybe because of the ankle), Ross has stepped up, McKenzie is down and Sinclair/Gilbert are coming into good running form.
Hopefully Mav is absolutely shredding for sandringham next year…

What I find more exciting is Jack Sinclair breaking into the top 5.

Weller and Dunstan two players for some reason have become whipping boys. They are beasts and will be top 18 all year. Very much finlas in their hands. Guns imo.

'for some reason'

Dunstan was unfit but improved and his last two months were great.

Mav had a shocking season and carried himself like he was a star player. Hence = whipping boy.

Thats BS he did taging jobs and won them. hence why he kept getting games. Plus he was playing injured/overweight.

Guns. Both of them.

Guns? VFL or AFL?

Dunstan was dropped to the VFL twice in 2017 (Rd 6, 7 & 10, 11, 12). So was Mav (Rd 17, 18)

Not sure what ur on about?

What is your definition of a 'gun'? Someone in a bottom 8 side who plays VFL some weeks?

When was the last time guns such as Martin, Dangerfield, Rance etc played in the VFL?

They were/are clearly fringe players.

Miles from being guns.

It's great people are loyal but some things on here are beyond ridiculous.

TREVOR BARKER AWARD TOP TEN

Sebastian Ross (159)

Dylan Roberton (124)

Jarryn Geary (121)

Jake Carlisle (119)

Jack Billings (110)

Jack Steven (108)

Jimmy Webster (88)

Jack Newnes (83)

Jade Gresham (81)

Nathan Brown (78)

We finished 11th.
So blokes outside the top ten in a bottom 8 side are by no means 'guns'.

Unless your definition means anyone who plays in the AFL is a gun or you mean a VFL gun.

Says a lot about our team when half of the top 10 are defenders and no tall forwards. Luckily we just drafted 4 more backs????? (Hunter Clark will start as a HBF before the trolling starts.)
I agree with the term gun being thrown around way too much. We had one gun last year, Seb Ross, That's it. And this year he will get a lot more attention so I am hoping that others stand up otherwise it will be another disappointing year.

Damning top 10...
Ross, Carlisle, Geary, Roberton, Billings sure
Steven I bet was killing it until the lung injury and then fell away... shocked he’s as high as he is
Gresh I feel could be higher
Brown I get because he did his role

The rest... lacklustre to say the least. Wouldn’t be top 10 in a finals side.

Webster for goodness sake

A 'gun' can be any sort of firearm/weapon.
It can be a large turret-mounted piece on a destroyer,
or a 'gun' can be the rifles used in the American Civil War, that took 15 seconds to load with powder and lead shot.
If Mav and Dunny are 'guns', they're the ancient type above, that are ineffectual, unreliable and just plain obsolete museum pieces.
Again, Mav is trotted out for the ladies during fund-raising dinners, like a museum relic.

You are tired of me calling out BS and stating simple fact?

Prefer to let the Pollyanna brigade rule the roost and run rampant on here?

What are you doing so valuable with your time? Curing cancer? Solving world poverty?
I doubt it.

Saying someone is not a gun is NOT rubbishing them.

A gun is someone like Dangerfield, Rance, Martin, Franklin etc

FFS.

I am heartily sick of the kool aid drinking duffle coaters on here.

I said Dunstan had a poor first half of the season and then improved and had a good last two months.
It seem both the coaches AND THE MAN HIMSELF agreed that was the case if you bother to read the article.
That is NOT rubbishing him.

As for Mav. No unbiased footy fan would say he had anything other than a horrendous season.

If you think 11.18 is a good return for a permanent medium/small fwd you must be seriously on kool aid.

Jamie Cripps (maligned on here) managed 26.18
Josh Hill managed 16.8 and was delisted quick smart.
Jacob Townsend managed 16 for just 5 games.
Josh Green 17.21 and is a fringe player at Essendon
Will Hayward 22.13 in his first season.
Mitch Hannan 22.10 in his first season.
