Ground Hog Day

Post: # 1723275Post older saint »

Same story as it has been for the past 15 months. Poor Goal kicking and field kicking. Effort and attack on the ball good for periods and drops away to see 3-5 consecutive goals kicked against us being the difference between a win and a loss.

There does not seem to be any consequences at selection though. The same fringe players go in and out, a youngster comes in plays a couple games and then as they do plays a poor game and needs to go back.

Granted I only saw a little bit of last night but that said just watched Richo's message to members. He sounded pissed but what will happen as heard this before and seen little change.

Gresham needs to go back to the 2's to find form,
Billings 21 pressure acts but can we carry a bloke who has kicked 4.11 with 27% scoring accuracy ( Lindey Thomas got dropped because of gaol kicking and next season was in top 5 for accuracy when he came back)

Time for a statement ( ala Dal Santo and Milne dropped in 2008) , but i fear when i see final teams next week players such as Weller, Coffield, White, (not Steele this week) , will be the outs listed and Armitage ( deserves another crack at it now has a base) , Lonie, will be the ins.

What about Gresham , Billings out
In: Phillips Armitage

Form in, Lack of form out. ??

Not a bad post. All things considering, we should have ended up beating a top 4 side last week and we were right in the game against a current/potential top 4 side this week. It was really only a goal or two most of the game before it blew out a bit in the last 15 mins.

Its not all doom and gloom then, but:
-our goal kicking is killing us (this is no 1 issue)
-overall skills are killing us (this is no 2 issue)
-lapses in games are killing us (10-15 minutes at a time)
-too many players out of form are killing us
-ball movement is killing us
-inside 50's are killing us

All the above has/is ruining the season. It comes down to everyone why the above is happening and players, coaches and leaders are responsible equally. The effort is there 80-90% of the time, but what I listed above is really killing us and stopping the Saints turn their bloody season around!

Goal kicking inaccuracy is completely demoralising and bleeds into every aspect of your game. Imagine working hard to get the ball forward and into a certain goal scoring position only to see a miss like Membrey's. Totally deflating and even though we bounced back from it, the yips soon returned. What's happened? We weren't this bad prior to 2017.

Dixon clearly has no answer, but that's not a surprise. Just an ex player/commentator, who was a nice kick himself, but comes across as a bit vague. We fell for the old fallacy that if someone has a skill they can impart it to others. We need someone who can actually teach. Didn't anyone hear alarm bells ringing when it was revealed his secret technique was to get the players to visualise their best sexual experience when lining up?

Seriously, does any club shoot itself in the foot as much as we do? Maybe that's why we're poor kicks. Perhaps Dunny's psych. could be the answer. She revived his career, didn't she? For blokes like Billings, surely it's between the ears.

What about game plan, TMBK and Elshaug out. That would be a good start. Clearly all is not well at the top of the footy dept.

What is TMBK?

Not sure about the game plan as skills so bad by foot not sure if it works or not as never executed well enough skill wise to know.
Elsaugh, yer fine but won't really have much effect in the next 16 weeks ( except ni scouting the top 4 players in 2018 draft.

older saint doesn't know TMBK.
Drake Huggins
called Richo
The Milky Bar Kid
and it seems to fit quite nicely indeed.

If Lonie is selected next week I will seriously consider staying home.
