Sliding door moment
When we picked Mccartin and the Dees picked Petracca.
Now we couldn't beat time with a stick and the Dees just thrashed the Blues by over 18 goals, their biggest winning margin ever over that side.
The Dees are heading for top for and finals while we are heading for the bottom and another wooden spoon.
Angry? Much.

Re: Sliding door moment
Good grief. So if we had picked Petracca and hence had yet another bull midfielder with not much pace, and certainly not a gun, we would be in Melbourne's position?

Re: Sliding door moment
At least with Petracca we would have had a good player with a future, against a player, who due to his pre existing condition should have never had been picked and is more than likely never going to play again. In fact for his own well being shouldn't play again.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Because Petracca dominated today. 20 disposals and a goal for a team that won by 100+

Do you actually know what a sliding door moment is?
You don't appear to.

Re: Sliding door moment
Fair comment and for those that bag Petracca here, keep your heads in the sand. Petracca has a lot more upside than McCartin and he will improve. He has plenty of skill, is a strong bodied, powerful midfielder that can play forward and may well reach star status. McCartin won't.Bruce G McAbee wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 5:50pm At least with Petracca we would have had a good player with a future, against a player, who due to his pre existing condition should have never had been picked and is more than likely never going to play again. I picked two points in time to show that once we were both highly regarded young teams and to show that we have gone backwards while the dees are playing at the top of their game.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 6:10pmSo why use today’s game as evidence?saynta wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 6:04pmNot what I am saying t all.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 5:59pm Because Petracca dominated today. 20 disposals and a goal for a team that won by 100+

With hindsight and if had the choice, I would have picked the Collingwood bloke who kicked 6 straight last night over the Melbourne Figjam.

Can you foretell the future? Who wins the flag this year? Might make some money.saintkid wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 6:16pmFair comment and for those that bag Petracca here, keep your heads in the sand. Re: Sliding door moment
Melbourne have been stockpiling top ten draft picks since 2007. We have only had that luxury since 2013. That is some head start for the Dees and they received priority picks during that time as well.saynta wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 6:21pmsaynta wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 6:19pmI picked two points in time to show that once we were both highly regarded young teams with young talent and a bright future and to show that we have gone backwards while the dees are playing at the top of their game.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 6:10pmSo why use today’s game as evidence?saynta wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 6:04pmNot what I am saying t all.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 5:59pm Because Petracca dominated today. 20 disposals and a goal for a team that won by 100+

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Re: Sliding door moment
I go by probability. The chances of McCartin becoming a star (let alone having a career with all his health and concussion issues) are very low, That I know for sure.takeaway wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 6:25pmCan you foretell the future? Re: Sliding door moment
I think its a fair comment.
It was a mistake at the time and we have lacked class in the midfield.
Certainly part of the reason two even sides have gone opposite directions.
We just have to hope Coffield and Clark develop along with Acres, Dunstan, Gresham, Billings et al and pick 1-3 this year
If a team ever needed a big Free Agency win....
Get Gaff!

Gaff won't come to us buddy.
Would have to carry too much. Not worth the kanga.

Re: Sliding door moment
I agree. Paddy was not needed, we had a reasonable forward line with Bruce & Membrey the keys.fugazi wrote: ↑Sun 20 May 2018 7:05pm I think its a fair comment.

The way footy is being played now, I reckon Acres switching between forward and mid (ala Danger) should have sufficed. So yeah, sliding doors sounds right.
Another thing, having to try and play Paddy as much as possible over the last two seasons when it was obviously not working, has had a huge negative effect on our structure. Don't get me wrong, I have been a fan of Paddy, but you just cannot sacrifice the whole team in trying to play one person into form. His first three years should have been at Sandy

Re: Sliding door moment
The question is would we be better off with Stanley & Petracca or Paddy & Goddard.
If we were going for Petracca we probably would not have let Stanley go as he provided a back up ruck and forward option.
I don't see Petracca and Stanley as great players, particularly Stanley, but hard to argue we would not be a better team right now with Stanley playing the Marshall role and Pettracca half forward/ midfield rotation instead of five or six guys getting a game now.

Re: Sliding door moment
Stanley wasn't getting much love out of the SEN crew this morning, so I reckon the judge is still out on that one. For mine, I reckon it's too late now for Paddy, he could have been ok but too many head knocks now, so even if he just played at Sandy, he's stuffed if he gets another couple.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Mon 21 May 2018 2:25pm The question is would we be better off with Stanley & Petracca or Paddy & Goddard.

The word from "On the Couch" tonight was that if Gaff left the Eagles he would be headed to the Demons (and not North, Carlton or the Saints).

It’s funny when Emma Quayle’s book noted our two picks for pick 1 was McCartin and Jordan DeGoey
