He has survived some pretty hard times along side Buckley. Not any guarantee, but at least Eddie must know something???

We have all had a shocker of an interview sometime. You can recover (e.g. move to where they don't know you). Anyway Harvs more than deserves an opportunity if he is keen to return. The panel that chose AR might well have looked closely at whomever put his presentation together, scripted the auto cue and prepped him.

If he is good enough to be an assistant coach at Collingwood, then he certainty is good enough to be an assistant coach at the Saints.barneyboyz wrote: ↑Wed 11 Jul 2018 8:55amHe has survived some pretty hard times along side Buckley. Not any guarantee, but at least Eddie must know something???

Don't have a problem with him coming back as an assistant, just not as a senior coach!!!!!saynta wrote: ↑Wed 11 Jul 2018 10:35amIf he is good enough to be an assistant coach at Collingwood, then he certainty is good enough to be an assistant coach at the Saints.barneyboyz wrote: ↑Wed 11 Jul 2018 8:55amHe has survived some pretty hard times along side Buckley. What a load of horse s***..
But Banger did go through the same selection process that Richardson did. From memory Harvey did not think he should have had to. Or similar to that effect. He was pissed when he missed out
There is one question I ask. Could it be any worse than what we have right now?

Harves went about his job on the field quietly but his impact was unbelievable

Doesnt mean he can coach.
I wouldn't want him as coach. 17 other teams dont want him as senior coach either

Yes. It might have been exactly the same results, and now many would be screaming for Robert's head. That would be worse.bigred wrote: ↑Wed 11 Jul 2018 3:43pm What a load of horse s***..

Well the Pies are sitting 2nd and he has done a fair apprenticeship with them so who knows - he may actually be a great coach and motivator but everyone assumes because he is quiet as a church mouse he doesn't have what it takes
Imagine if Harvest went back to Carlscum (where he first started his coaching career)and turned them around - fkn nightmare of epic proportions

Reckon Harves is probably a very different proposition to when he left us in 2011. Weather or not he is a good fit for us is another matter.
I doubt it but who would really know.
Prefer others. Eg Brett Ratten, ironically.

Almost certain Harvs will be back at Saints as an assistant coach next year.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 10 Jul 2018 5:23pm A guy called Sam Harris on a Saints Facebook page,

Who is 'Tony Watering'
I know we have 14 coaches, his name ain't never come up.

Maybe the name is Waterhouse and he is just looking to create some odds
The harshest thing about Harvs being coach would be when it comes time to sack him, or perhaps he may get a better offer from the Hawks because he did so well with us.

Re: Rumour: Harves to coach us in 2020
Went to a function at the Lobster Cave earlier this year where Harves sat with a table of 12 of us mainly mad keen saints supporters & we could ask him pretty much any questions we liked it was a great night and he gave us a great insight into his playing & coaching career but after asking him a couple of questions regarding coaching the saints he seemed quite disappointed he didn’t get the gig before Richo
& that times change & he doubted he would be back at the club ever!I know he may have been just saying that but it sounded pretty honest to me & also said how good a coach & person Bucks was & how much he was enjoying his time at the Pies!

What's your view on that Jaxons?jaxons wrote: ↑Wed 11 Jul 2018 10:34pmAlmost certain Harvs will be back at Saints as an assistant coach next year.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 10 Jul 2018 5:23pm A guy called Sam Harris on a Saints Facebook page,

I know we have 14 coaches, his name ain't never come up.
I worry about it, because in a time of panic he could easily become Head Coach. Beside that I think we need to add Assistants with gameplan nous. Surely we interview a range of candidates to assess who best brings the skilss we need? My concern is that they're building Harvey's expectations and I'm not convinced he's the Coach we need, Assistant or otherwise.
If Richo's tenure ends somewhere between now and the end of 2019/20, who he is replaced with will be critical. Bringing back a favorite son as a messiah has never worked.
If they choose to keep Richo for 2019 (and that shouldn't yet be decided), then they need to back him and as they've said, put good people around him. Or is he getting a former champion of the Club, who's tactical nous is unknown and who wants his job?

Re: Rumour: Harves to coach us in 2020
The one question no one has asked yet
And this is the only question you need to worry about
Why would he want to leave Collingwood?
You look at what they have done this year -decimated by injury
And still they will go deep into the finals this year when I guarantee most of you had the saints ahead of them before rnd1
When Eddie opens the cheque book at the end of the year they will certainly be serious contenders for a few years to come.

No to senior coach
I loved Harvs as a player but he’s not a senior coach
I’m a believer you need some mongrel in that caper and just don’t think he has that in him

Think about it. Who would really want to be at the filth if your blood ran red white and black, as Banger's surely does.

Re: Rumour: Harves to coach us in 2020
I love Harvs but he'll never be a head coach. He's not articulate or charismatic or forceful enough as a public speaker for the job. It would be great to have him back as a senior assistant though. Summers seems to be committed to the idea of getting St Kilda icons back at the club and I think it would help resolve the predicament of being the boring, passionless entity that is right now under Richardson

Re: Rumour: Harves to coach us in 2020
His departure from the saints was not a harmonious one
and he has been overlooked since then as well
The only factor in his favour is AFL clubs' love of recruiting in staff from clubs that are successful

Re: Rumour: Harves to coach us in 2020
Why would we not want Harvs back at the Saints in some capacity? The guy is red, white and black through and through. Our games record holder and one of the greatest players ever to wear the Saints jumper. A dead-set legend and it hurts me to the core everytime I see him in the Magpies box. Apart from that he is a great bloke. Maybe not as head coach, but lets do whatever we can to get him back at the club. Leave no stone unturned, spare no expense, etc, etc
