Very Satisfying

Post: # 1816109Post tony74 »

Players never deviated from the coaches message. Played one short, two pretty well hampered and two lacking fitness. And seriously against a very good coach and technician. Very very happy with themselves. Well done Brett.

If one of the coaches messages was butcher the forward 50 entries then we well and truly succeeded there👍

Nothing's changed with Ross. He has the tools but he probably thought today that his players let him down

Let's say you ask some of the assistant coahes in the AFL (the ones who are currently aspiring to be head coaches) which list they'd rather take on, who do you reckon they'd choose?

I personally think that Freo have a few more A graders than us at the moment

We have some very good players like Marshall, Membrey, Gresham, Billings, Long, Ross, Steele and Clark with the older blokes in Carlisle, Hannas and Steven

They have Fyfe, Langdon, Walters, Cerra, Brayshaw, Hamling, Hogan, Lobb, B Hill, Matera, and the older blokes in Mundy, S Hill and a couple of others that may play next year (excluding Sandilands and Ballantyne)

Froe were all over us for nearly three quarters, and we still won. Don't really need too much icing on our cake to blow that team off the park yesterday, and some of it is already there

The players should be very satisfied with how they played yesterday. Freo were very good, and Fyfe was unbelievable. It took everything we had to beat them.

And please be aware ( not that you have to be a Rhode scholar) that the coaching staff know our forward entry work is absolutely awful.

So what are they doing to address it?

It's still improved 100% on what it's been like for the past 5 years!

The final play would never have happened previously. It would have been a long bomb instead that wiuld have been killed by the opposition.

We were bottom 4 for Goal Assists last year, and this year were bottom 8. In the past month we've averaged 10 per week. If we ignore the Adelaide game where we only had 5 - we've averaged over 12 per week.

That's a good indication of being able to efficiently attack.

Nick Hind is having a habit of being involved in major plays  He may not be a walk-up starter (yet), but does some very nice work

What a difference one straight kick makes. Winners are grinners. I thought we were pretty dreadful. Fortunately a fat boy with a lot of class got us over the line.

Always hated playing on the fat bloke, especially the older variety. If they 'pantsed' you it always stung. Actually, when I think about it now, The fat boy showed his own mates what a 'pantsing' looks like yesterday, hope they learned

Totally agree. Got pantsed too often by old, fat blokes when I was an up-and-coming tennis player. Well done Stuv.

He got slammed by 2 Dockers just after he kicked that magical pass.
Split-second decision, saw Baroose and delivered with precision.

He will be a player imho. Once he picks up the pace of AFL football, they will never catch him..

Look out for him in 2020.

Hey tony74, is the forward entry method, a legacy of the Richo game plan? Or are our players simply not following instructions?

It might explain the "Skateboard" video that Ratts showed the players pre-game.

The latter, they just panic. Afraid to make a mistake. There is so little that has changed with the game plan.

Freo had forward entry after forward entry at the start of the last quarter and gave themselves every chance to increase their 3 quarter time lead.
Carlisle saved our arse with 4 towering marks and a couple of important spoils, and along with Battle and Marshall (who also chipped in with important game-saving marks) snuffed out any chance Freo had.

Savage was brilliant all day.

I don't know how much the head coach had to do with it - but we controlled the air in the last quarter.

Pleasing.
Carlisle has also committed to the saints for next year.

Though one change is that we seem to try and keep at least one player deep in the forward line, rather than flood out completely.

Thanks Tony
Are you implying that Ratts and the coaching group think Lyon can actually coach and is tactically astute?????
