We're already trying to introduce 5 new players.

That's already going to be a challenge to integrate them.

Getting another one?? Especially that isn't much chop?

Why? We get new players each year.

Difference this time will be that they will now mainly all be experienced AFL players. Surely this makes them easier to integrate than if for example we picked all kids/state league level players?

Mods, can we please amend this post to spell this guy's name correctly. I like a good laugh as much as anyone, but the joke has gone on way too long and is just plain disrespectful to the bloke.

Don't bother. Too hard basket for this year. If we land hill, Paddy, Zak, and Howard it will be impressive

I prefer a gradual change to the 22.

Too many at once changes the dynamic too much. Although that may not be a bad thing.

Well changing our dynamic will be more likely to be a positive than a negative, as let's face it in 2019 the dynamic was mainly poor.

And with all the injuries we had in 2019 (often about 14 not available from the list) we had no fixed 22 anyway with the 22 varying enormously over the year. So 5 new faces are not really going to rock things anymore than the injuries did anyway, and probably a lot less.

So just by having a fit list you will have many changes from the "average" 22 we fielded in 2019 anyway.

With Ratten, and the new assistants, you would also expect to see a new gameplan and tactics being rolled out and so that would disrupt things more than mixing in some new experienced players.

There is a whole pre-season to integrate the tradees.

Agree sRs, if we get the mix right the positive results could be quite rapid.

Deal done. Great value pick-up by North. Love money-ball trades and North have spent nothing to get him.

North Melbourne: Aiden Bonar and a future fourth-round selection (tied to Melbourne)
Greater Western Sydney: Future third-round selection

Definitely would have liked to have taken that one.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

I'm pretty sure he was on huge money, which limited his appeal?

yeah I heard around $400k, which is above the league average, 2 years in the league and 6 games is definitely overpaid. Would've still loved him at the saints though.

So North get A Bonar.

Good for them.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

The club definitely needs to shake things up a bit as same old, same old was clearly not working. At the least, we should be unpredictable for a while.

I just hope we haven’t overpaid.

Baffling that we didn't go after him at that price. Clearly salary cap isn't an issue. Would have been a potential gun coming very cheap. Would certainly take him ahead of Butler.

Agree... best deals Saints did are with Sydney clubs. Bruce for pick in the 40s, Membrey for a nothing pick...

Saints have a future 4th rounder so could have traded him. After Acres loss, there aren’t many tall mids (~190cm) at the saints.

I’ve got a Bonar after this trade period.

One is enough.

We got poor value from Stuv but as you said same
old ain’t working.

The big possible upside apart from the trades is King & Bytel.

Not the sort of player we needed. We needed pace and outside run so that is what we got. He is an in and under mid we are well served in that area.

Goodness me.
Next thing you'll be saying you find Benny Hill juvenile!

I occasionally post/read on my Local Nextdoor community website.
There is a guy there who posts under the name "Ivor Bonar".
Funniest thing is I think that is his actual name!

There was an AFL umpire in 1900 by the name of Ivor Crapp.

That's actually the only "bonar" comment in this thread that made me smile.

Very clever :D

Curly is still spewing about the mark Ivo didn't pay to Chas Baker in front of goal in 1902.
