Butler came in for thr Stevens pick.

Lethlean spoke about the trades in some detail this morning.

Basically said they paid overs for Hill, but we really wanted him so we knew we would have to

We identified (Gallagher did) early in the season and he feels we scored a really good deal on that one.

Didn't want Bruce to go (contrary tonwjat Tom Morris said on TV last night), and acknowledges we'll miss him - but he feels with Ryder, Howard and King we can cover that somewhat.

In summary, he knows we gave up a bit but seems to believe the net gain outweighs that given the needs we addressed.

He was asked about Josh Bruce. He was adamant that he was a required player and that he was keen to leave for a fresh start.

I don’t think he’s being completely honest.

Bruce was on SEN this afternoon. Said the Bulldogs came to him late in the season and offered him the four years deal (I assume on the same or slightly more money). He met with Luke Beveridge and Sam Power and was impressed with the offer. He went back to the Saints who weren't prepared to match the Bulldogs' offer. So it was very much the Bulldog targeting Bruce. Made him an offer too good to refuse. The length of the contract was the clincher. Bruce said he and his partner had recently had a baby and he was looking for security.

Contracts really are a joke aren’t they?
Once upon a time you didn’t target contracted players...guess that’s gone ..

Well done to Gallagher...sounds like a good bloke too. Knows his role and goes about it diligently.

Now that the dust has settled, I'm concerned about Bruce.

It's very unusual that a contracted KPP that is basically a very good player - is given away so cheaply.

The Dogs came for him, and offered him more than we would. So he wanted out.

But it's obvious that we were more than happy for him to go.

The question is why?

And why so desperate to let him go for such unders?

We'll miss him on-field, but I understamd we needed pace and midfielders above KPPs. However I find it hard to believe that we couldn't have found some cloggers to offload that would have netted the same return?

Given we're still 1-2 gun players away from being a top 4 side - I gotta say I'm worried if we're already offloading required players cheaply just to get salary cap relief?

It had nothing to do with salary cap relief and he was told he was a required player. The problem was the Dogs offered him a 4 year deal and for a key tall forward who turns 28 in June it was possibly viewed as risky (aka overs) by the list management guys. Personally I think the Dogs are paying overs but they had a desperate need for Bruce type and were clearly willing to pay overs. Having a guess that our list management felt they could cover his position while they waited to see if King could cement a spot in the side. I'm guessing Ryder was then seen as the guy who could stop-gap while they waited to see what King could become. And really upon reflection of our current list as it stands after Wednesday, Bruce was the person on our list we could most afford to lose as we have several players who can play Josh's position while we wait to see what King can do, starting with Carslile, Howard, Battle and RoMa. Really when I think about it we've really got CHF well and truly covered.

Steven is cooked. Acres is C-Grade.
4th rounders vietually useless.

Got Butler - a premiership elite speedster forward

Acres was slow. Took 40 seconds to make a decision.
Same with Newnes. They arent great decision makers.

We now have Hill Butler Jones who make great decisions a lot faster.

Howard is elite!! Look at his attributes. Is Rance / Wood duplicate.

Bruce we had NO need for.

Our team is faster more balanced and more talented than before.

Bruce left because of other reasons - he wasn’t really wanted by us - that’s what tony74 basically said and I’ll go with that not the public spin form the club or Bruce.

I’m sure if we really wanted Bruce to stay we would’ve come to terms with him. That’s pretty obvious. Don’t buy the spin!

I think he means in your personal life. Say like buying a house you really want. You stretch the budget an extra bit, but 5 years down the track when it’s the house you love you don’t think twice about it again.

I assumed Easton Wood. The Bulldogs premiership captain.
