Newnes could go on to be the next Sam Cranage?

Re: Jack Newnes
Does this mean that the club now has finished all of the delistings that they need before the draft? Does anybody know that final list lodgement date? Cheers

Maybe the coaching and leadership make a difference
Varying degrees of all of the above
Maybe none of it

Despite my non-rating of Richo, there is absolutely no doubt that he did/made a lot of positive contributions to the playing list/club.
Not least of which is that there is a talented nucleus there with an emphasis on professionalism and positive attitude. Very good quality to promote and certainly Ratts has taken over a much stronger list than Richo started with
Do you want to really put your self in that category? Unintelligent stab in the dark people?
Put up or shut it.
Let's see the team Richo started with vs. the 2018 list.
C'mon post it. I dare ya.
I'm also happy to post it if you're scared.
Watters, then Richo butchered a team able to win finals from the moment he started. The wrong coach was hired .

Richo had six years and just was so bland and vanilla it was junk baby food he dished out. A useless coach for that length of time. 3 years would’ve been ok but beyond that we were sinking not swimming.
A year ago the damage control began by hiring Ratts in advance and bringing in 4 mature aged recruits to help stabilise the mess.
Bringing in 5 trades is also part of the stabilisation and a counter attack. Whilst we celebrate a huge trade haul it’s on the back of lots of damage in the past.
Ridding ourselves of both Acres & Newnes and trading out Bruce (I’m not counting Stuv because that wa mental health) puts a message to blokes like Billings, Dunstan, Ross and Gresh that party time is over and it’s time to get fair dinkum. No more just turning up each year for the pay check.
I’m not saying the above players I’ve mentioned were just cruising - but they could’ve been a bit complacent at certain times in the year.

Newnes. Below Average player who got a below average offer most likely indicating he would be a depth player at best. I like it. He left and is joining a team with a better mid field based on last year. Good luck gettung game time there. Glad he is gone

Re: Jack Newnes
Disappointed we didn't trade him out when he had value and had a good reputation for being a solid, decent player.
Definitely needed a new start but annoyed that he couldn't find his higher gears with us.
Life member, always welcome at the club. Had some quality years.

Re: Jack Newnes
And post the retirements of Fisher, Dempster, Montagna and Riewoldt (and injuries to Armo) who did we have with class past Steven to lead, guide and take the pressure off the players we were Drafting?
Was this problem down to Richardson?
Why did we recruit players from the State leagues at the ages they are at and with the experience they have at those other levels?
The demographics of our List meant Richardson was always going to be under win/loss ratio pressure - then there was his conservatism hence the support for certain players including the Captain
Richardson relied on structure and role - not challenging our kids to get there and showcase to the competition - both by their defensive and attacking abilities and their understanding of patterns (so trusting the line in front of you and positioning because you know exactly where the ball is going to go to)
There is no doubt we have talent - as Hill has said today but in terms of experience the most experienced of those kids are just getting to 100 games (and I still lament the loss of Acres on a raft of fronts)
Those approaching 100 games have done so minus the presence of our retired experience - and even Carlisle missed significant time
So cut some slack
This group is growing together
For how many Rounds in 2019 did we have the youngest team on the park?
Our percentage said we were off the mark and requiring further experience - which we have traded for
So Richardson may have had the “better” side courtesy of certain names
But Ratten has a far better List, particularly numbering to about 25 on the List
Richardson never had 25 as a core at the required level
So there you go

Re: Jack Newnes
Until the second last Round last season where we lost by 10 points (and should have won) we have had the wood on Carlton
We lost that most recent match because they had a floating defender who took mark after mark (so Bruce’s papers?) AND their talls in attack exposed Brown and an under done and struggling Carlisle, but particularly Brown as he could not keep up heading to the 50 metre line - where they were potting them from
So they exploited Brown and his lack of mobility
The summary is that I would fully expect us to resume our dominance over Carlton - given the side I hope we put on the park in 2020
Given the history of Carlton players coming to St Kilda (including to Coach) it is pleasing to see some List players going from St Kilda to Carlton

Re: Jack Newnes
AR also had a massive amount of injuries
When he did have Nick R, Dempster, Joey, Armo and Jack
We won 11 games in 2016/2017
They all retired and left a huge hole in 2018
Armo, Bruce and McCartin missed the entire year with injuries. Depth was no good.
Started 2019 well, then with 8 best 22 players missing with injury, fell in a heap
On Newnes, serviceable player
Started as a promising HB, moved to the wing and was good. Lost a bit of running power and ended up in the ‘dead mans’ position as a defensive forward.
Lonie, if not already, will clearly be the whipping boy

Re: Jack Newnes
Geary I would keep on the List for 2020 - but for the same reason I assume we have kept Brown for
For 2020, in terms of number of games played, who are our experience so 200 game players?
Simply, we have none
We need a winning culture at the Club - and this includes at Sandringham where the experience of Brown and Geary will assist
It is far easier to play well in a winning side - and that goes to our development side in the VFL as well
In terms of AFL I am of the very optimistic view that in Clark and Coffield we saw our “medium sized” defenders of the future - then, again optimistic add Roberton who is class plus then Battle as intercept and Carlisle and Howard (on what my disgruntled PA mates tell me noting their view of Austin who I trust has added kg’s to his skill set. Mind you they are outraged that Keith Thomas, from the traditional rival is in the position he is in so all fault with Keith. I laugh and respond in the affirmative which promotes further outrage. You just have to love those supporting the side past the cemetery!!)
So no AFL spot for Geary unless injury
In footy when you get or are delivered the ball you just have to be able to use it to advantage by precision and depth including run and carry if you are a “medium sized” player
Plus you build good sides from defence
