DeGo Or No...

Post: # 1838660Post SAINT-LEE »

I'm interested in this idea of a seasoned mid/medium forward who can kick 40 goals pretty easily... but I think he'd have a big price tag.

Also, he was very inaccurate in front of goals in 2019 but still averaged 2 goals a game.

Do we need him?

Who does he replace?

Mmmm... I’d pass. I think he’s more trouble than he’s worth. By all accounts his attitude ain’t great and I reckon in a team not surrounded by stars, he may not shine so much

Sydney will have a crack at him IMHO, not needed or in our thoughts at seasons end hopefully.

In a heartbeat. But he ain't going anywhere. He'll be in Dusty's league after the Pies win a couple of flags.

Absolutely, but I doubt he’s going anywhere.

On playing ability the only saint I wouldn't trade for De Goey is Marshall.
I would use him as a mid forward 50/50, but Collingwood probably has the best midfield in the competition so has the luxury of playing him as a forward.

Hard pass. Gun player but way too pricey. We need to build from within for the next two years more than spend big for a marque player. Plus we have a better midfield this year that may surprise. I am more worried about where the goals are going to come from

I'd love him on playing ability alone. He'd be easily a top 10 player but, he'll cost a bomb. North couldn't get him with a $1M per season so, can't see us doing much better.

I'd rather draft a ripper similar type kid with our 1st pick in 2020 National Draft and try and jag a gun as a FA.

They have the best midfield on paper and yet, they have some serious deficiencies within it too. Grundy had 70+ hitouts in the Prelim and yet, the Pies midfield got smashed by GWS (without Whitfield, Cogniglio, Ward and Toby Green pinch-hitting).

Big no from me and here's why.

https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl

"Collingwood star Jordan De Goey reported to Pies’ pre-season training overweight and unfit, falling out with and sacking his manager in the process."

"Collingwood president Eddie McGuire says Jordan De Goey has plenty of time to reach peak fitness, responding to reports the star forward had returned to pre-season training out of shape.

De Goey sacked his manager Ben Niall last month after the pair fell out when, for a second straight year, he reported to the Pies in a less-than-satisfactory state.

But, while McGuire said he was unaware of any problems with the 23-year-old, he acknowledged there could be issues with players reporting back from leave below required fitness standards."

Every day of the week we'd take him if he was available. He's a gun. The last time we passed on a gun with a 'more colourful background' was Dusty, how'd that work out for us?

He's right up there with the best players to watch IMO.

While quite brilliant & a real game changer I wouldn’t have De Goey just on output against the coin he would earn! And I’m pretty sure we never
passed on Dusty ,I wouldn’t mind us chasing Merrett though!

I think this is a myth

Am lead to believe that we were more into Dusty then vice versa

He'd be our best forward instantly, on current standing, and we could move any number of surplus forwards to fit him in...but I'd be very surprised if we could afford him. Back loading his contract would also back us into a corner, given he'd be looking for a 5+ year deal.

I think DeGoey would be a massive risk. Top footballer but huge risk on a long term 1m+ contract. Won't be long before the mental health issues kick in.

I don't think it is. I bumped into Sam Fisher at a bar in Prahran early in 2014 where I had a quick chat to him - mostly around Watters getting the arse. One of the things Chips said was that Dusty was all but set to come across but Watters had stamped that out pretty quickly

NO to De Goey!

You've got to do better than kick 2 or 3 Joe the Goose goals a game from within 15-20 metres of goal to justify the money he's on....way overpriced and attitude problems.

He's a known quantity and a matchwinner. He's a bull and you'd love to be lining up in a final with this bloke next to you

He's not the first bloke to ever come back in less than tip top shape but who cares. Finals aren't won in March. I'd take him. If we are paying Hannas 800K and Hill 900K, then surely he's worth a shot at similar money

I know he can be a d**khead, but I'm sure he has grown accustomed to his lifestyle and you'd think with the programs they specifically put him on at Collingwood, he'd be mature enough now not to do something that will jeopardise his career. I don't buy into some of the opinion on here about predicting the future or about predicting the physical or mental health of players.

Protected at Collingwood by the media mafia a club like StKilda would have been forced to sack him by the media scum.

Fair enough on the last comment but aren't you predicting a change in what is already a dubious character fault. He is not a kid anymore.

you need to watch his games carefully many if your so called dinky goals
he started the play in the middle

class player and consistent
and if we paid $800k for a busted player what would we pay for someone like Degoey
Hanners contract would cost us any real shot at him tho
