Is Patrakios on potential the best Saint M or F

Post: # 1839496Post terry smith rules »

Absolute jet.

In a couple of years will be an outright star in AFLW

Lovely kick on the run. Can turn opponents inside out. Impossible to tackle

But the best thing. You can see her footy brain working two moves ahead of every other player

White looked pretty good too. Would like to see her get a run on the wing or midfield.

Are you trying to compare the Men and Women directly?

She looks like she could be a great AFLW player but she’ll never be as good as Dan McKenzie.

Amongst her peers - Petrakios a long way in front. There's a reason for that though - she's grown up playing footy (like Daisy Pearce - who, regardless of whether you like her or not - is a natural footballer and who looks miles better than most). A lot of the girls are referred to as cross-coders - as in, they played one sport at elite level for ages and have now switched to AFL to (a) extend their sporting career (b) earn more than they would playing their original sport.

I agree totally with this one - how often do we hear commentators (who you would think would know better) call us Saint Kilda. As someone on here once explained really well, we are named after the suburb of St Kilda, not after any saint called Saint Kilda. I thought the suburb was named after the Island of St Kilda, but in googling the suburb just now I found: "It was named after the schooner Lady of St Kilda, which was owned between 1834 and 1840 by Sir Thomas Acland. In 1840 Thomas Acland sold the vessel to Jonathan Cundy Pope of Plymouth who sailed for Port Phillip in Melbourne in February 1841." Mind you, I also just found the island of St Kilda being spelled "Saint Kilda" online in Encyclopedia Brittanica - so who knows?!

I use the climate data website for work sometimes and it irks me that the St Kilda in Victoria is spelled Saint Kilda while there is a St Kilda in SA and QLD both spelled St Kilda.

I have no doubt she may be the best of this generation of AFLW players, but I'll bet there will be someone this good or better every year coming through from junior grades.

She doesn't appear to have the fitness yet to maintain her running for 4 quarters.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Yes, ABSOLUTELY.

“On potential” she is so far ahead of the likes of Plugger, Rooey, Harves, Winmar etc, that it just ain’t’ funny.

“On potential” she may actually be the greatest footballer in the history of the planet.

...rugby, soccer, Gaelic football, gridiron, fussball, u name the code!

In fact, she may also be the greatest person in the history of humanity “on potential”.

Excellent post!

This is too stupid. St Kilda is named after the boat which is named after the island. Oh - correction from looking here - http://marvmelb.blogspot.com/2013/08/th ... kilda.html

St Kilda is actually a complete error inherited from not being able to speak Norse - it should really have been Skilda!

Either way, St is an abbreviation not a word. "Saint Kilda" just says it in full.

That's actually the point though isn't it freely - in the case of the name "St Kilda" the "St" isn't actually an abbreviation of "Saint". Its not an abbreviation of anything - its just part of the name.
In my work names, facts and detail matter, but I accept that lots of people reading this won't give a s*** ;-)
Anyway, thanks for the article.

Yep, St Kilda was an error and made up. Should've been Skildar, which funnily enough means "shield"
