Too true Gazrat.

Our Chairman is the leader you want in tough times. He has the sensibility, financial capability and contacts to navigate us through the current problems. We are in this journey together.

He can call on the know how of Paul Kirk who was a top work out specialist world wide and sits on our Board. We have never had such a professional Board.

Plus we have a major Saints supporter in Gill running the whole show. Saints have done well out of past AFL distributions. The AFL is now looking to use Moorabbin for games this year and making our asset become more relevant and valuable. Gill will not let Saints go down on his watch.

Tough times but we have the people in place to look after our interests IMO.

"No decisions have been made and there are still a wide range of options available to the AFL, the players and the clubs in order to begin and complete the 2020 Toyota AFL premiership season. We will continue to prioritise the health and welfare of all AFL industry participants and their families and follow the advice from the Commonwealth and state and territory governments and their chief health officers."

"What we do know is that we will need to continue to be flexible and agile and may not end as we start if the rules change and the interstate border restrictions are lifted at some stage over the coming months."

Amidst all of the commentary on this forum and in the footy media we should take note that no firm decisions have been made so far let alone what will eventuate in the coming months, so everything that commentators and supporters say and write is pure speculation, so it is really too soon to get worked up about it.

Whilst a number of sporting bodies in the EU and elsewhere have pulled the plug on further play this season, there are also many that are committed to playing on.

If and when the competition resumes the quality of football is of secondary consideration, let's face it, many supporters enjoyed seeing the women play in the AFLW. And so what if teams are going to field B list players to replace some of the superstars who opt out, it will still be good to see some of our fringe players strut their stuff because those blokes will be super keen to get the opportunity to prove their worth.

We need to remember that although the 2020 season has been compromised, life will be back to normal in 2021 and there will be hundreds of players that will want to make sure they remain employed.

Beggars can't be choosers and I will be delighted to see footy back on the big screen in whatever form!!

If whingeing supporters are that lame about the quality of footy simply flick channels, there are lots of other ways to get your blood pumping....like Championship Darts, snooker, ski jumping or lawn bowls. I quite enjoyed playing marbles when I was at primary school in the 40s, it's a wonder it hasn't made a comeback!

I'm not sure that what Richard Hinds has expressed in this article has any bearing on my comments SK, he is mostly referring to the ongoing issue of the reluctance of some players to go into hubs for protracted periods and the condemnation by footy fans of that stance.

In regards to that particular issue, I was far more persuaded by what Joel Selwood told FootyLive on Fox Footy last night with words to the effect that he unequivocally believes players are prepared to play and that he has complete trust in the AFL to come up with the best solutions to facilitate the resumption of the 2020 season.

The following article on Fox Sports is also indicative of the constantly changing landscape:

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/live-t ... e3664f2dc0

Circumstances surrounding the relaxation of the lockdown restrictions are changing every day, leading to realistic expectations that by the time the AFL wants to press the Start button there may not even be a need for hubs.

Couldn't agree more Shaggy, apart from Paul Kirk and Andrew Bassat on the Saints Board, Andrew's brother Paul has been on the AFL Commission since 2011:

The article is presenting the other side, the one you can't see, maybe because you are anchored to Murdoch media.

I source my information from all news outlets SK, including the ABC - but please tell me exactly where in Richard Hind's article that you reference does he present "the other side" to the debate about the AFL getting things wrong or the suggestion that St Kilda FC is at risk of being placed in administration, as you have stated a number of times?

I'm actually a big fan of Richard Hind's work, both when he worked for Fairfax, on ABC TV Offsiders and on the ABC website, he has great insights into many sports and invariably presents balanced views.

What do you mean "half cocked" - why don't you respond to my questions??

You're regularly exaggerating the true position of the status of the AFL's financial situation and St Kilda's plight (like claiming that "insolvency practitioners" are going to descend on the club) and advocating the abandonment of the 2020 season, yet you never back any of this up when challenged.

Again mate, where in Richard Hind's article does he mention or discuss the "other side of the coin" in this debate?
Surely you could copy and paste the relevant quotes......

Im looking forward to 'Big Brother - The Hub and 'I'm an AFL footballer, get me out of here'. The 2nd rate, bastardized format of the season will only serve as a distraction from the drama. This could be TV gold.

Those arms can't be too long, we the supporters must now pledge our own money to "save" the club. Which is confusing becuase apparently the AFL is guaranteeing our future. Can someone explain why there are so many requessts for supporters to pledge money to "save" the club by donating money???

Does anyone know if the President is pledging money to save the club?

Funny how ABC types are always happy for economy/jobs to stay shut while they sit back on their secure, tax-payer funded, unslosable jobs. No skin in the game.
