Not as good as that win back on 24 September 1966.
But there are fewer of us who can remember that.

So the last time we beat Port was at Football Park when Ross L was coach?

I believe that it was in 2011.

No

It was merely our 5th win of the season

The more important game is the one that gives us our 6th win of the season - and so on and so on until we go all the way

It has always annoyed me in recent years as to how we just get continually thumped when we play interstate, and how the Adelaide teams continually beat us. I think it was a big flaw in Richo's coaching in not being able to get the team hitting the ground running interstate. This is a different beast and I'm liking how things are developing.
Now we just have to win a few games in Qld.

We're third on the ladder this year though so I don't think it's too premature - but still 9 games to go before f.f.f.f.finals.

This performance didn’t even get a mention on the AFL’s weekly what we learned about.

Port was no 1.

I do. I was aged 10. A jubilant Saints supporter put a Saints jumper on Tommy Bent’s statue in Brighton. I remember the picture in the Sun. I hope I live long enough to see us win another.

Anyone who appreciates footy knows how good that game was. It is my fondest hope that it becomes a season defining game for us.

My favourite Sainters win was 1998 against West Coast in WA in the scorching heat!

Home & Away wins...

The 2004 win over the Lions at Etihad with Wools bomb in the dying minutes was a great H&A win.

The undefeated clash in 2009 V Geelong was another beauty.

Beating Carlton when Plugger kicked 10 on Silvagni at Moorabbin.

The Nicki Winmar/ Gilby McAdam game at Victoria Park another great win.

But yes, really enjoyed the Port win on Saturday.

Easily our best win since the qualifying final 2010 when we beat the Cats. People quickly forget that we were underdogs in that game and everyone expected it to be a Pies/Cats GF. Winning in finals as the underdog is something else. The 05 Qualifying final was also pretty special, winning as an underdog interstate against the dominant team of the H&A season. I ummed and ahhed all week about going but couldn't stand the thought of losing after being at the 04 prelim the year before. My loss unfortunately and no one to blame but me.

Having said that Saturday's night's win had me excited like I haven't been about the Saints for a very long time. Make no mistake, Port came out of the blocks hard in the 1st quarter. We absorbed it and counter punched to stay in the contest. After halftime Port threw literally everything at us. Once again we absorbed then counter punched. In years gone by we'd be down by 7 goals at 3/4 time and that would be the end of the contest.

The last quarter saw us take control of the contest. We haven't done that in years. Our best wins have all been at Marvel/Etihad. This was an interstate game against a quality opponent.

loved the win at west coast in harvey's milestone game as well. similar to the port game in that we broke away at the last to win well. and not much of a game but a favourite memory was the retirement game of milney, kosi and blake. just a feel good game. bittersweet though it was.
