I prefer Gresh as a small forward. Hanners ability to get through a season without injury is a worry. Crouch and Steele are walk ups, so what happens to Ross and Dunstan, and using Clark as a possible mid? Sinclair might have to go forward and then we need to develop Bytel and Byrnes.

Too hard!
Small forwards are one trick ponies and the old addage that it is one of the hardest postions on the ground is a myth perpetuated from a bygone era.

How many small forwards have ever won a Brownlow.

Full time small forwards are players who can't get a kick anywhere else on the ground and the only kicks they do get are ones that bounce out of the hands of tall forwards.

Gresh is a midfielder.

Clearly you can't play all of them but you need some depth midfielders who can come in and fill a role when injury occurs so a season isn't derailed like this year when Gresh and Luke went down.

I'll say it again.

Top 4 sides have deep midfield depth with as many two way runners as possible. Hopefully we dont lose any midfielders this trade period.

Looking forward to the pre-season games to see how the whole midfield thing will be managed, and who puts their hand up.

I wonder if Crouch will be able to force Kent out of the team?

Well, he was an exception. Was almost a key forward for part of his career, the way we played him. Butler might be exceptional, too. He could almost go through the midfield. He’s certainly quick enough.

Agreed. The era of guys like Kent or Lonie getting 6 touches a game for a return of one goal is and should be a thing of the past.

Based on the the forumites in this thread... one can only surmise that some of us caught onto this a little earlier than others.
Plenty of room on the hindsight bandwagon though

How about we leave it to the forward line coach and Ratts to decide who is best.

This forum would be a very sad state of affairs if we didn’t share opinions on what was happening

Recruiting Hannebery
McCartin over Petracca
3 year contracts to Dmac and Joyce
Persevering with Longer

Club doesn’t always get it right...
Thankfully the current regime seems to be getting it right more often than not

Is Seb Ross safe or does he finally get to the Bombers?

I reckon Ratts is looking to have a foward line full of resting mids so blokes like Lonie, Kent & Hind may also find themselves trade bait.
Why the f*** would anyone want to go to the bombers, Ross certainly wouldn't.
How the f*** would you know where Ross wants to go? Seriously.
Better edit another post pelican, saynta didn’t claim he knows where Ross wants to go at all, his statement was based on where Ross doesn’t want to go 😉

Got to love trade rumors!
Remember someone posting that North Melb has offered Mav Weller a four year deal at big $?

In what ways do you see him as an improvement? Genuine question...
Gets to far more contests and has proved he can regularly get 30 possessions in a game.

I have seen this in his stats. Are they productive possessions or just touches?
I see he has some good stats.

Do any players in present or past compare well to his style?
I watched a few Crows games hes been okay, good at least once and I think hurt a few times as well.

Cyril was the prototype two way running midfielder/forward, Papely and Cameron are both two way running midfielder/forwards. Kevin Bartlet...give yourself an uppercut.

I really rate the Brownlow, the umps love a small forward.

Besides his brother, I think of him as a Priddis, Mundy, Kennedy type. Can get the ball, will draw one, two or three tacklers before dishing off. Likes tackling as much as Steele does. Quite exciting with the mix of different midfielders we are compiling. Fingers crossed they can all stay on the park for an entire season or seasons.

So..as a restricted free agent that deal should see the Crows take on a pair of Saints players to give salary cap relief and allow St Kilda to pay Crouch enough to grant Adelaide top-bracket compensation. What do we get for helping them get a compensation? This Crouch deal must just be the entree, the main course will be what they do with the reported $4 million in their cap over the next five years and whatever they get back from Adelaide. I think a big trade is brewing, that deal is too simple to be the stand alone play.
