I don't think that's correct.
They had Jesse Hogan (traded for the pick to get him the year before) already and no way would they have taken another key forward.
They wanted mids and couldn't get the words Christian Petracca out quick enough when we selected Paddy.

This is most likely the case. If anything Paddy would have been at Collingwood whether De Goey was gone or not.

Possibly. But every article saw before the draft and just about every phantom draft had McCartin, Petracca and Brayshaw as the top three (in varying orders).
People go on as though if we hadn't taken Paddy he wouldn't have been taken in the top 50, which is wrong.

Actually, I would have said that 99.99% would have taken Petracca, given that our team WAS SCREAMING OUT FOR A MIDFIELDER, DESPERATELY, but I agree with your point!
I'm not so sure. This was our round 20 team from 2013. Tim Lee full forward?

B: D.Roberton, J.Blake, S.Dempster
HB: J.Geary, J.Gwilt, B.Murdoch
C: F.Ray, L.Hayes, L.Montagna
HF: D.Armitage, N.Riewoldt, C.Jones
F: S.Milne, T.Lee, J.Newnes
FOLL: B.McEvoy, N.Dal Santo, J.Steven
I/C: J.Webster, J.Saunders, D.Minchington, T.Curren

I'm unsure how the above became my quote but let's roll with it. It appears we were screaming out for many things which would explain the 6 years prior to 2020.

There appears to be a glitch, quirk, anomaly in the quoting function.

There appears to be glitch in many posters memories as well. I think its called 'the hindsight glitch'

No glitch, quirk or anomaly there. That's a wiring issue.

Saints were desperate for a full forward which is why they went for McCartin. the midfield was fine.

Sounds fair. Lee managed 17 games and was gone late ‘16. But Paddy had three concussions and a collarbone that very year..Talk about the clouds of disaster converging!

I just watched the Watters press conference for that game...after another in a string of defeats. You can see it coming.

Shane Savage Hawthorns best and playing for us the following year. for us, just old guard. Farren Ray, Dal, Joey, Lenny and Roo. The old guard basically.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
