There is very little rationale evidence as to why one wouldn’t pick a Tony Lockett or a Robert Harvey in just about any scenario but IMO neither would be the perfect choice for this team.

A new Nick Riewoldt too would be an incredible addition...

But personally right now... imagine an in his prime, Nicky Winmar just slotting into our midfield rotation, and resting up forward if he needs to slow down from super sonic speed to a gentle sprint

King would take 15 marks a game up forward

I just watched this video and am feeling a bit hyped about the wizard... it has been posted here before but nonetheless check out the goal VS Collingwood at exactly 10min
It is unbelievable

Definitely my first choice... otherwise prove me wrong
Yes, Nicky was one of the best players I've ever seen. The newspapers even changed their constant reference to him as "the mercurial Nicky Winmar" over time, because he became so reliably brilliant.

Winmar is one of the most underrated players ever! The fact Michael Long is rated as high just shows you how underrated he was!

Could do it all
Take contested marks (and hangers)
Tackle
Find lots of the ball consistently
Kick it 60 or drill a pass
Pick it up one handed at pace
Kick goals

Not sure he had a weakness
Other than reacting to racism and losing concentration

According to one of his teammates he was exempt from having to listen to strategies etc in team meetings!
Also reputedly had serious drinking problems-Imagine how great he could otherwise have been!

Yes

Off field I’m not sure he was too reliable, even a bit unstable

He was at home on the football field showcasing his sublime talent!

I have seen too many players with his pure skill and class

I think that was from Stan Alves’ book
Sense was that he was an instinctual player that they really couldn’t teach any thing too... and he didn’t need it... but they had trouble getting him to meetings so the compromise was come and just sit there pretending to listen

Appropriately, you quoted yourself, so we won't count that as anything out of the usual.

Nice one, a personal dig... well done!

I’ll take it as a compliment

This means a player we lack (otherwise you’d just go Lockett!)

A run and carry mid with class or speed IMO
Therefore anyone of
Harvey, Hayes, Goddard, Dal, Montagna, Steven
By a player type we lack.....Ian Stewart = ELITE mid.

But I would still go for Lockett! Just imagine him in a good team.

It was a compliment. I love people who dont care for convention, its a very self righteous thing to do. I love self righteous people.
Personal?? Was that personal? I dont know you that well. I think you might be getting a little presumptuous. It was just a dig and possibly a little humorous too. No offence intended but I feel safe to say, you don't often get offended. You lied though, you've quoted yourself twice now.

just another day on farm

the old bull and the young bull
were in the top paddock
checking out their domain
when the farmers truck pulled in off the highway
and unloaded 17 new heifers

the young fella
was doing cartwheels
went all a bit cowstruck
and cried out
lets go , c’mon
lets get down their quick
and jump one of them things

the old bull
smiled
quietly to himself
and replied

take it easy chickenlegs
how about we just amble down this ‘ere hill
all cool bull like

and jump em all

No one can force you to quote but except to cop some flack for it occasionally.

You’re not that special mate.

I would only add Winmar on condition that his father promised not to die 24 hours ahead of a Grand Final.

It should have been Nicky's crowning achievement, a premiership.
But his father died, a devastated Winmar still played but understandably it was his worst ever game.
He would have towelled his young opponent, a young kid called McLeod.
But instead McLeod wins the Norm Smith.
Stewart Loewe had a stinker prevented from having an influence by a ruckman named David Pittman tasked with stopping Loewe marking.
The other stinker was Jamie Shanahan at full back.
It was the premiership St Kilda should have won.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

I don’t know if this is meant to be humorous but it seems to be in very poor taste

Loewe IIRC had a major family crisis that w/e that would have seen him miss if it had happened on any other w/e

But Lockett to FF, Marshall CHF. King to second ruck alongside Ryder.
Understand what you're saying, but King to second ruck is like taking your Rolls Royce to work, to pick up bricks.
I know, but he has to make way for Lockett ... like everyone else did.

I reckon he’d be a pretty handy ruckman, too, though injuries would be the worry.

I knew of a wealthy family in Sth Aussie that used their Rolls to round up the sheep. They took the back doors off so that the sheep dogs could jump in and out easily. True story.

Yes, I don't disagree (on both counts - Lockett was the greatest player I've ever seen).

Agree 100%. I was with a bunch of Pie supporters a couple of years ago and I posed the question ...if you could have 1 St Kilda player who would it be? Lenny Hayes was the unanimous choice. Smart, talented, tough as nails and a great leader.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Totally agree! Although I still think that Nicky Winmar or Robert Harvey could slot into any team, in any era and immediately make a big difference.

The doc would be handy at CHF in today's team.
