Lonie courage

Post: # 1901918Post MickThomas »

It was such a 'St Kilda' thing to do.
Not Lonie's courage; no...
The dinky kick by Sinclair to a tiny player outnumbered, destined to get crunched.
If 2 Cats were nearby, there's probably a free Sainter nearby, that could receive in the clear.

We keep doing the stupid hospital pass.
Time and time again.
Why?

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Back to the title, very impressive by Lonie. Courage has never been his knock. What he did in that moment is the reason he keeps getting selected when most of us are asking why.

Correct about decision making and average disposal in general costing us big time.

I was miffed that wasn’t a clear free!

Am I off base here?

How was 2 players slamming into him not interference/in the back

Will be highlighted in the match review

Things like that are the epitome of toughness

Had no impact at all, never got a touch after that incident. It knocked the stuffing out of him!

I don't believe it was a free kick, both Geelong players genuinely went to spoil, nothing illegal. Just pure unrewarded courage in the moment but invaluable for the future.

No It's highlighted on afl.com.au. I have looked at it a couple of times...no free...but a huge fumble by King cost a certain goal.

100% correct, Lonie deserves some respect for his fearlessness.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Lonie has never lacked endeavor or courage, for a guy his size you have to admire that quality in him.

I remember a tackle he laid against a bigger opponent early in his career where he was absolutely polaxed!!

Always had my respect since then

Does not take a backward step

Lonie has never been afraid to take his chances, he is mentally prepared to do whatever it takes. He also does some freakish things. More often than not though, he doesn't have the strength, speed or skill to complete his decisions.

I’m not sure he’s best 22 in a top team - is not far off though - so maybe he can continue to improve and better his career

BUT that was a very gutsy effort by him and I think he should get plenty of cudos for the way he goes about it

I can see why some don't want him in our side.
But I will defend his selection
He always competes he defends well and he snags the occasional goal in a game.
We don't have another like him

Yes Lonie showed incredible courage.
But Sincs should NEVER have done that to him.
It was stupid footy by Sincs, as Lonie was severely outnumbered in size and weight.
It was a low % play, just kick n hope.
Sure, if King hadn't fumbled, he might have goaled (or missed, more likely)
But...a hospital kick or handball like that is poor judgement indeed, when the receiver gets hurt badly and might be out for a week or more.
Not smart, Sincs not smart at all.

sincs had a decent game. bit overrated on here though. his mid-range kicks are generally very good, his bombs are generally abysmal. he has the easiest role of all our players with a bruise free, receive and dish off role. didn't lay a single tackle as he stands off to run past and collect. his job is delivery so he needs to work on the longer ball.
lonie always was a very gutsy player, very admirable attribute - a leyton hewitt like scrapper, just a pity he doesn't have a bit more body mass.

Lonie would love to be 6'4" and 100kg

Never seen him pull out of a hard contest

I'm slowly closing in on the 100kg, but not so much the 6'4
