And if I was 7ft I would have played in the NBA, but I'm not and I didn't . Caleb Daniel doing pretty well and he is smaller.

I doubt that is the reason, we have better players on our list and younger players who need games. Any games in to Lonie at the end of the season would have been wasted in terms of giving us an understanding who we've got on our list.

Played most games (17) in his first season (2015).
This season had career lows in his per game averages in marks (2.1), goals (0.4) and tackles (2).
Sums it up really

Yeah, he had a pretty average year.

Butler was down a bit offensively too… but defensively excellent!

I think we lost speed of ball movement a bit, and the forwards pushing up high and working back to goal didn’t work as well.

Lonie has ability, but he needed to impact more offensively

Provides good pressure, but misses goals.

Small and easily brushed off
Average disposal
Misses goals he should kick
Slow

What do you see as his strengths BM?
Anything other than work rate and effort?

Spot on.
Too slow, easily brushed off, inconsistent and won’t get another contract anywhere his time is up.
Supporters slam the club when they fail yet they want contracts handed out like lollies at a child’s birthday party.
Get in the real world.
Right decision not to sign up him again.

Talk GWS may look at him if Hill goes to Ess. Perhaps 3rd this year for a pick in 60s and 4th next year and Lonie,
Could then use the third for points or Xerri?

I think Lonie has the following strengths

Ability to read the ball of a pack
Ground level and one touch
Provides good forward pressure
Clever with footy in hand
Extremely courageous

Has played some me outstanding AFL footy

Weaknesses
Can miss tackles
Misses too many set shots
Goes missing for periods of games
Is a bit one dimensional so he lack flexibility

I’ve watched a lot of Lonie in the VFL - class above

In the AFL he is inconsistent

He looks like he is going to set the world on fire but usually just goes off in a puff of smoke.
He's the kind of small forward you don't have to defend, he takes shots from places he can't kick them from, can't lay tackles often enough and while he can read the ball off a pack, he has a tendency to run himself into a deadend and dives for free kicks, from which he consistently misses goals.

We have better options and it would appear that so do other clubs.

For a player that bad

He’s done pretty well to play 90 games of league footy?!

Truth be told, he’s better than a lot of ignorant supporters give him credit for

You don’t kick 4 goals in a game, if your hopeless

He’s played some very handy league footy, but not consistently

Dominates VFL

We all agree on him being a very good VFL standard player, but in the real game, you can fluke 4 every now and again, he has done it twice but his little tricks work less than half the time in the AFL.
You probably shouldn't miss half your shots as often as he does though, 73goals, 81 behinds says it all. Not to mention all the cross goal, around his shoulder 'out on the fulls' he does.
By the time you reach 90 games you are supposed to be getting better.
If he didn't miss so often, you wouldn't have heard a word from me, but he clearly has confidence issues. His confidence is way higher than his ability.

You don’t fluke anything in League footy

You definitely don’t fluke 90 games

BTW

I think he lacks confidence at league level and tries too hard and loses composure

At VFL level in the wind and cold at TBBO he rarely misses, he’s a dead eye

I’ve seen him miss simple goals at Marvel!

Amazing what pressure does between the ears

Yes

At 174cm to survive at AFL level in what I consider the toughest position to be consistent

To play 7 years and 90 games he’s done OK

Inaccuracy has cost him 47%

7 years on an AFL list

90 games

A failure?!

It’s well above the average AFL player career

Yes. He is likely to be dumped while stringing together 1 year contracts and isn't valued above the first 36 juniors in this draft.
I'm guessing he won't be celebrating.

But he can be proud of having had an AFL career

Something you or I haven’t had

Play 1 game of League footy is an achievement
Play 50 means you are a good footballer
Play nearly 100 and even better

Put it this way
He turns up at your local senior club this pre season - he will be the best player by a mile and get north of $1000 per game

Yeah country footy clubs pay well , my mate's son was playing in the Mildura league this year & he is very handy but not as good as Lonie & getting $800.00 a game. Lonie should be proud of his achievement but I think he will also disappointed that he could not sustain his first year form . Everything went south after his first year & became a fringe player that struggled to own his spot. I have no hard feelings toward Jack but IMO if he stays on our list then it will show how mediocre we really are .
