Will we ever be the beneficiary of a match winning free?
Fridays game and listening to SEN.
Topic was all based on three horrendous frees awarded AGAINST StKilda.
Steeles deliberate
Hayes no high or illegal contact
Woods holding the ball
All three people were ringing up bemused even outraged about such shocking one sided calls.
The SEN hosts totally agreed to the point they said StKilda were on the receiving end of really poor umpiring for the night.
Why us is the question

Good get. And in a fairly important game too.
Didn’t Butler or Lonie get one round 1 last year?

Bumped a GWS player as he was kicking it, Giant's foot missed ball, maggot said 'dropping ball', it was maybe 30- 40m from goalDarth Vader wrote: ↑Sun 20 Mar 2022 10:24amGood get. And in a fairly important game too.

Re: Will we ever be the beneficiary of a match winning free?
It was definitely a free to Butler, as was the Gwilt one.
Maybe insert dodgy into your question to make it a bit harder.
Pendlebury got turned around like Wood in the last quarter. Unlike Wood who handballed, Pendles just dropped it but that wasn’t a free kick apparently.
Pendlebury also kicked from the back corner of the square straight out of bounds with no team mate nearby but that was apparently not deliberate.

2019 against Hawthorn. The free to Lonie wasn't there. He goals and we won.

Around 1998 at Wet Toast. McIntosh adjudged as holding the ball with a free kick to Gavin Mitchell. Goal, game over, we win.

In a close game, you have moments that can definitely change the end result. You just want some bloody consistency!!kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 20 Mar 2022 10:47amIt was definitely a free to Butler, as was the Gwilt one.

Frees were given against us in the last quarter when we had a run on like the Wood free. The Steele deliberate out of bounds was when we had some momentum and in our half of the ground. The non free to Hayes could have got us within a kick with only 2-3 minutes left.
I watched the replay and these were some of the things that were frustrating. I don’t think we deserved to win because they had better ball use and better forward entries. I think we lost the centre clearances and we were getting smashed at times in that last quarter.
We were basically beaten in the contest when there was a loose ground ball and that is supposed to be our strength with Marshall, Steele and Crouch. It happened all over the ground but especially during the last quarter in our defensive area. Players like Hill, Howard, Wilkie, Webster, and even the mids who came in to help like Steele, Ross, and Butler and McKenzie were fumbling.

There was 5 seperate times we kicked a goal that the next centre clearance was a free Collingwoods way. Baffling at best what was the indiscretion.

We need for the umpires to believe we are a good team again and that is clearly not occurring at present.
