Paton

Post: # 1976490Post 6621104 »

As anyone knows who has reviewed my posts I have made positive comments on the kid - but I was wrong. He has no composure, rarely hits a target even with a handball, and is clearly not a defender. Can he find a position? Who knows. Before the usual excuses watch ebery comtesy he is in amd those he should be

Very good lockdown player, but has no idea what to do with the ball. Indecisive , and has tunnel vision.

He has worried me for quite a while but thought he has shown some improvement in recent times.

Today I thought it was one of his better days.

I think Paton is one player that for sure will welcome the break and come back fitter and better than ever. Tough year for him, playing a lot of catch up with fitness and mostly in the seniors.
His confidence has been up and down a bit as he was exposed a few times.

Personally... if Ben Paton was a stock option... I’d buy buy buy now. He’ll be better for this season. Hopefully has a good off-season, hits the track hard and I reckon he’ll bounce back.

Ross also had 29

He also plays in the midfield- and most turnovers are kicks under pressure from stoppage

Defenders should run at a high disposal efficiency as a lot of their kicks are under no pressure

His turn overs ended up in scores.

Every team needs a few lockdown players. Paton has locked down the best small forwards in the league (Betts, Greene come to mind) but has not been used that way in 2022 with Webster taking that mantle.

If you have concern with Paton, take a look at Ross

The damage Ross inflicts on the side was on full display today

Including dropping the ball resulting in a walk in Sydney goal

Paton has skills to work on - noting he has come back from a season out with a badly broken leg

His efforts today were quite reasonable both at ground level and overhead

His kicking has lacked penetration since his injury hence him looking for 30 to 40 metre options including requesting players to come toward him

A full pre season will assist

Ross?

Well watch today’s game

Well said but for some it's all about possessions, regatdless of where they go because that's their escape, their excuse. They do not have an opponent to be responsible for so that apparently gives them licence to kick it anywhere.

The Paton rubbish is pure bile from those struggling to understand our real issues.

His year has been well below his 2020 year. Hoping he gets a big pre-season under his belt, gets some confidence back. A keeper for mine. Webster is, what, 30?

I thought he was good.

I must have been watching a different game.

The defence did ok against alot of good entries.
Always a few mistakes but Paton went ok .

Paton is good but also had to come back from a hell of an injury and there is no fitness like match fitness so this year was hard for him. I expect him to be better next year

I think people forget how good this kid was before his very serious leg injury. Similar to guys that do knees and miss an entire season, they usually take another 12 months to recover their form. I'm confident Paton will be back to his best in 2023.

The kid's coming back from a broken leg inflicted upon him in last year's preseason by a refuge from the dawks, just when he was predicted to have a standout year.

Gears, Matty Maguire and many other never fully recovered from such an injury

Give the kid a break FFS.

I think Paton has plateaued, as has Clark and I thought Coffield last year. I would trade all of them. Got to make the tough decisions, and I think we might get something for Clark especially, maybe not the other two.

I’m not sure that he was all that good.
A good overhead mark for his height and full of coverage, but not quick in terms of leg-speed and decision-making. Disposal below average. Makes an ok tagger, but not a play-maker.
