2023 Forward line coach

Post: # 1977385Post footynut »

Lade is currently our forward line coach, and well to put it simply. Our forward line does not function consistently!!
Is it him or is it the overall game plan?
There must be some better realistic options out there. Who should we approach?

I dunno if Lade is any good or not but it has to be said the main issue is whats happening up the ground

It is true that our entries and delivery is usually fairly poor. But it is not helped but the leading patterns, lack of space/cohesion and decision making inside 50.
What is lade teaching our forwards?

Need a specialist coach for the centre to half forward region- that's where it keeps coming undone when the ball gets into that area. Our half forward line is a actually a big weakness, amongst other things.

Well one may ask
“what did Adam Kingsley know about forward craft”. Nick Reiwoldt just said he taught him more about forward craft than any other coach. Adam Kingsley played mainly as a backman. So I’m not sure you can apply that logic

Anyone. Anyone would be better.

Cant think of a positive thing to say about the forward line at the moment.

Kicking at goal
Crowding contests. Getting in each other's way
Not leading to advantage
Bombing it long
Kicking at goal

The most polite thing would be 'dysfunctional'

And not in a good way.

I wonder if Ladey is thwarted somewhat by the selectors. When he coached the team, and we won (Hawks at MCG?) he made a point of saying he thought Hill should play forward.
Who could coach Higgins and Butler. They just do their limited thing as it suits them. But they get selected regardless as we go down the slippery ladder because we can't score enough.
Be funny if Kingsley offers Lade a job and GWS become a scoring machine.

Presuming they mix up the assistants’ roles a bit, the first thing the new forwards coach will need is another big, strong contesting type to take some heat off King. Maybe it’s Hayes, we’ll see.

The kick-it-to-a-triple-teamed Max King thing has to stop. It hardly encourages quick and direct ball movement, knowing the ball is more than likely to be spoiled and come straight back out. That would make me stop and prop and try to finesse,

King looked a hell of a lot better last week out at chf, running around. If he is marooned deep it is a proven failure. Predictable and planned for.

Another thing is to keep some structure in place. I’ve lost count of the times we couldn’t score because everyone was up the field trying to get numbers at the ball.

The key is to give your forwards space to operate in, which means quick ball movement.

Lade coached against the Suns.

Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.
