Grant Thomas' three years of finals were 2004, 2005, and 2006.
In 2004, we weren't really finals ready but had a huge crack all the same. Had we made the Grand Final, we might have been able to run a tired Lions outfit off their feet.
In 2005, we were cruelled by injuries and were cooked in the prelim.
In 2006, we lost two premiership points in the sirengate fiasco. If that game was called a draw, we finish 3rd on the ladder instead of 6th and get a double chance. The entire finals series is changed. Sydney finish fifth without a double chance and probably don't make the Grand Final.
We'd have played Adelaide away. Our only match up against them that season was a loss with us coming off mutliple 6-day breaks. We looked cooked on that night.
Fair to say, we'd have made a Preliminary final at least and probably lost to the Eagles in Perth in a prelim. I doubt whether RB could have sacked GT after losing a prelim in Perth.
The sacking of GT was a disgrace at the time (we had a 14-8 record that season and percentage off 4th).
Sorry LLS but all I read are excuses.

Weren’t finals ready on 04?

Surely you are not going to perpetuate the myth we made a prelim with a team full of 19/20 YO or that our core was young and inexperienced.

The fact is we had the most talented and balanced list from an age and experience personal I have ever seen at the Saints but we couldn’t make a GF let alone win one.

IMO we were deficient in preparation and coaching, we had the cattle but we’re not professional in other areas.

We were. In decline in 2006 without doubt.

At the time I did not want GT sacked as I am pro stability, but the guy should never have been gifted the role in the first instance.

Got handed the keys to a Ferrari but couldn’t drive it.

That is the truth
Like a kid with a toy GT didn’t know how to get the best out of it
When his run n gun game plan fell apart he had nowhere to turn
I still say has Lyon had that list in 04 with a systematic approach..you’re looking at 1 if not more flags..
Alas sliding doors
GT was a dictator and as one of the ex assistants told me directly “he f@eked your club”
I knew then I would never forgive
And I know now why his name is never even mentioned as a possibility for coaching - AFL world knows him

Prepare for Ross Lyon like you’ve never seen before

Reportedly, Ross 3.0 will be a mellower, “cuddlier” version.

Perhaps we should christen him “cuddles”. Bring it on.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/fin ... 5bqlm.html

The remaining “hurdle” in Ross Lyon’s contract with St Kilda has been eased, paving the way for Lyon to be appointed the Saints’ new coach.

The Saints denied on Sunday that a deal had been finalised, but high-level sources with knowledge of the discussions said the two parties had been working towards a three-year contract.

Terms of the contract were agreed upon last week, but there had been one clause to address, although it did not relate to finances or Lyon’s behaviour. However, that issue was dealt with over the weekend, allowing Lyon to officially be appointed as coach as early as Monday.

Some pretty handy sides beat us - let’s not forget that!

04 - Port Power (Premiers) had finished minor premiers 3 years in a row!

05 - Sydney (Premiers) were clearly in the best two teams (with WCE)

06 - Melbourne we were depleted by injury and starting to wane

08 - Hawthorn (Premiers) they were on the up, with a game plan no one could counter. Clarko’s cluster.

09 - Geelong (Premiers) hungry after being the best team in 08 and losing they had played 3 GFs on the bounce and were experienced. A bigger stronger bodied team, a wet day played into their hands a bit. That and our conversion!

10 - Collingwood (Premiers) were clearly the best team in it in 2010! We did well to draw with them

11 - Sydney were up and coming and were premiers the following year - we were again on the wane.

Sorry Teffers, lack the technology on my iPhone. It’s just some of the guys he’s worked with in the media saying he’s matured and mellowed.

Need to sort out a couple of things.
Reporting lines is one of them I bet.

Correct.
Interesting. Wonder if they want to put Lenny in as coach and Ross as overseer. If it is that sort of scenario, there needs to be a clear chain of command and understanding of who calls the shots, in which case it would be Ross.

Can categorically tell you that’s not the case..Ross is THE man!!

And a little bit of John Sebastian before bed.

Does anyone recall where Zal, Denny & the aforementioned artist sat?
