Interesting that there were none of the new players put in the higher numbers straight away.
Got to earn a top 20 number?

Matteas Phillipou has received champion utility Daryl Griffith’s number. If he can emulate the number 25’s feats of the ‘60s, then the Saints are on the way to building a successful dynasty. Griffiths was instrumental in us winning the ‘66 flag.
31 is an awesome number as well!

Good that Phillipou didn't get 2 as he requested. #2 has a special place in St.K history and you've got to earn it young fella.

Numbers are awesome.

So powerful…so resilient they resist rational minds attempts to debunk them.

There’s only ever been one number at St Kilda

34!

Except for all the others, we’ll almost!

I haven’t got a number on the back of my glorious away jumper from ‘22

What do you do ? Put all the numbers on the back!!

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

I can think of 5 numbers at StK that rate higher than 2

4 - Baldock/Lockett
35 - Harvey
7 - Hayes/Winmar
1 - Barker
3 - Smith/Burke

12 must also rate a mention and 5

Didn’t the club say they were going to retire it?

#25 has meaning for young Phillipou, wore it this year..have a feeling it was his dad’s number back in the day.

(Of course) I couldn't resist commenting in this 'numbers' thread. The record needs to be set straight.

How 'soon' we forget.

The Saintas' hallowed number 2. Worn by an all-time absolute bloody legend.

Captained the Saintas' at 21. At 35, he still had 'it'. Kicked 10.2 in a match against the pussies.

St Kilda Team of the Century member.

St Kilda Hall of Fame inductee.

Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee.

Dual Brownlow Medalist (when it was, strangely, still known as the 'Champion of the Colonies' medal).

The hallowed number 2.

I was, and still am, ecstatic that Phillipou somehow made it through to us! As expressed elsewhere, he will be the best player from the 2022 draft. (And Issac Keeler will be right up there with him too, btw. Looking at our haul, looking at the picks we had to work with... we pulled off another act of outright highway robbery on draft night!)

I have no doubt that young Matty P will prove very worthy of the hallowed number 2.

But yes. Good move Saintas. Let him prove it first.

It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?
