An Embarrassment

Post: # 2010981Post Sainter_Dad »

Not the Team - although they left a lot to be desired
Not the Coaches - although 42 disposals for a HB - scratches head

The Supporters

I just got home - I am hoarse - I left it all at Marvel

Sometimes we could not even tell a goal from the lack of responses
The most almighty cheer was when Hawthorn hit the lead in the dying minutes - and then - we knew we were cooked - no response from the crowd

If you were there - thank you - and please post your thoughts

If you were not - 0:54

Yes
Crowd size was crap .
Whole day was terrible
The stadium is like a refrigerator
The lights I find blinding
We were never in it

Well I reckon many of St Kilda’s supporters have just about had enough of the diabolical shambles of a team that is selected and produced to represent the club week in week out over the past 13 seasons. Years of progressive mediocrity and habitual mindless failure.

And the latest pathetic capitulation has happened on the same day that any solution to the racist crisis caused by that utter shitstain of a club,Hawthorn, the ‘family club’, has completely been blown out of the water.

Only St Kilda could do that to itself.

I was there.
32,000 plus - a good turnout despite the Frankston line being train replacement buses again (and apparently will be again soon for two months).
Thought the supporters barracked okay.
I just think the team were beaten by a better side on the day to be honest.
They missed a lot of shots they should have kicked, and we were at least one midfielder down. I reckon Steelie was injured too.
The players I saw in front of me were bent over gasping for air in the last five minutes. Maybe the bye has come at the right time.
The team we beat last week just went down to Geelong and won down there and all of the teams around us lost this week too, so maybe this loss will create extra motivation for the team to come out and beat Sydney up there for the first time since Ross coached us 11 years ago.

Our supporters were left stunned. I have to admit, I just felt too sick to the stomach to make any noise. It all started after Higgins dropped that chest mark. He holds that mark, it would have been a no-doubter shot on goal, which most likely would have sealed the win for us 🤮

But fair call on St.Kilda supporters not making enough noise. This has always been the case since playing at that sterile stadium. But it has seemed more noticeable post-lockdowns. A majority of our fans have gone soft. But maybe this is what happens when the last 12 years haven’t brought too much to cheer about.

We drove from Frankston to Camberwell to ensure that we could get home (and it was actually quicker than catching those God-forsaken buses - also went to Sofias after for dinner)

Players are paid to put in 100% effort, 100% of the time.
Supporters give up their time and money to watch that.

I went yesterday. I hated watching that putrid effort. That's 2hrs of my time, I'm not getting back.
I was ripped off yesterday!

The best part of the day was the hour before the game and at half time when I was in the members bar catching up with mates! I could have done that at any number of pubs.

Correct. In this day and age where things are expensive, supporters want bang for buck. We’ve put up with this s*** for 13 years (and the rest of the s*** times before then).
You can’t keep expecting people to blindly show up. It’s why our crowds are lower than expected and base support from week to week much lower than other clubs. Just 2-3 years of consistent winning will bring some people back. Add a flag and much more then commit.

Also costing big dollars sponsor wise as well over time.
No one likes a consistent loser.

That match yesterday was a season/crowd killer.
To a team that has two wins……
Only St Kilda.
