What changes would you make for next week?

Post: # 2019350Post skeptic »

King, Ross and Cordy are forced outs.
A few have suggested Pou is due a rest.
Byrnes was the sub but pbly played himself into contention rather than out of…
Caminati and Sharman are pbly the other 2 that get some scrutiny from the fans here but arguably did well enough.

By all accounts Battle, Clark, Hill and Higgins ready to come back.

Bytel, Campbell and Heath round out those pushing for selection

Battle for Cordy seems a lock
Clark for Ross
Hill for King
Higgins for Pou

Not sure what we do about King. Bring in Heath/Campbell/Hayes (too soon) for structure or put the responsibility on Caminati and Sharman then bring in another runner like Bytel. I don’t know.

Thoughts?

We did plenty good without King in the first half of the season.

Ins: Heath, Hill, Higgins, Battle
Outs: Cordy, King, Ross, Byrnes/Pou

I'd set up a pop up red rooter outside The Suns facility
Stuey and the boys won't be able to resist some of their fried chicken.
Come Saturday they'll be a bit bloated and play accordingly.

My good friend, why you want making drop of Ryan Byrnes? He play gutsy in second half last night.

Our defense is holding up. Wilkie is in All Australian form and Webster is one of the best lock down defenders in the league. He continues to beat the best small forwards and restrict their impact.

We are 3rd for Scores Against. That is also a credit to our mids and Mason Wood and Marshall who often do the work to help our defence.

We are struggling to kick goals. We are 16th for Scores For. We get it inside 50 often enough but we have been terrible in converting i50's to scoring opportunities. Our problems are transitioning and connection.

Part of the reason has been that we've had injuries and an unsettled forward line. We are very similar to Melbourne actually, so that had me thinking who could we move from the midfield to a forward role and who would be reliable enough to trust as an accurate goal kicker?

A: Jack Steele

He's the captain so he becomes a focul point. He is good overhead and he will provide good pressure.

We'll be up against a formidable midfield unit and Gold Coast are very good at winning clearances. It probably means that Sinclair or Gresham go into the midfield full time while Steele is playing forward and perhaps Hill takes the role at half back.

The other option is to drop Pou or Caminiti and bring in another inside mid like Jack Bytel.

Hope Battle gets past his fitness test this week as does Hill and Higgins so we have a better look at who is available.
Especially as sandy has a bye this week really bad timing.

I would finally bring in Campbell as a forward ruck a bit like what cordy did expect he is a big unit and would be more imposing.
Not really sure we need another young guy like Heath in yet he is playing well at Sandy but I really think he would struggle at this point.
Clark should come in and I would love to fit in Bytel he is also killing it if Higgins doesn't come up he could take that role.
I know Hays has only played 1 return game but maybe he should play with his marking would be a good foil with Campbell but thank god I am not selecting the team.

Does Borat thinks Monsieur Ronny Byrnes better man player than others? Does he thinks his boat is same Meatball Michington?

St Kilda weakness is tall timber forward…jelly legs. Pushed away.

Bring Highmore in

Try a few rotations/combinations up forward to confuse new stand in coach who wants to surprise -

Start with conventional set-up Plan C
Switch to confuse plan Plan B
Then launch 🚀 the main show Plan A

Look at Melbourne last week.
Petracca did a Jarman on us!!
Maybe JB at full forward? Steele?

Several Saints players have had very average months but no replacement

I wouldn't think Allison has any chance of playing against the Suns but it was interesting seeing him doing multiple competitive drills at training today.

They must be getting him ready for his return to the Sandy team.
I think Sandy have a bye this week.

Coffield was training with main group as well.

As others have posted, website says all 4 should be available with Hill and Higgins to undergo testing.

Big Tom tries hard, but for his size, is not a strong contested mark, and probably Heath is a better contested mark and has good goal sense. Lyon needs to get out out of his comfort zone and give a few games to the young guys like Heath and Peris- at least they will know what standard they need to reach.

Is Tom Campbell or Moose good enough to compete against the big guy Witts from Gold Coast and just neutralise Witt's impact around the ground?

Can you imagine a centre bounce with Campbell in the ruck and Marshall and Owens in the midfield? Not only for their big frames but also their ball winning abilities.

We don't seem to be able to get first use. Marshall and Owens have an uncanny knack of getting to the right spots to win the footy, so playing them as pure mids would be interesting.

That would definitely take the Sun's mids out of their comfort zone, but that's too innovative for our coach.

He'll have both Steele and Crouch or at least one of them in the middle at most bounces. Both had ZERO centre clearances against Melbourne

I’m led to believe Tom has all but given up on his AFL dream and knows the end was some time ago. From what I understand from someone who knows Heath’s parents he was saying early in the season he wasn’t ready for AFL this year so unless things have developed since early in the season then we won’t see Heath debut this year.

I don't think Heath has made a lot of progress in the two years I have watched Sandy games, but if he is a Saints listed player then give him a game and see what happens. I do remember way back that Lyon's reluctance to change anything and religiously stick to his system probably coat us a premiership- we need to get creative, we're not going to challenge for a premiership this season, so let's go a bit left-field.

Why would Billings be out?
Is he injured?

For me:

Out: Cordy, King, Ross, Phillipou (managed)
In: Battle, Campbell, Hill, Higgins

When i read Batch's VFL review i thought he was saying Hayes could play AFL after 1 VFL game, you decide.

It was great to see Hayesy out there and just competing. His follow-up work as our second ruck was very good and he tried to play away with attack.
I’m not sure if he’ll need another one or not (in the VFL), but he put in a good performance and I’m grateful he got through unscathed.

Let’s hope he can play very, very soon. We need another experienced, big-bodied player in attack.

King going down last week certainly hurt, but Cordy being kneed in the back of the head has been overlooked somewhat. He’d have been able to at least put some work into Steven May.

Yes, Cordy would have been helpful if that big lug May hadn't have concussed him.
I hope the Saints brains trust have planned/discussed how to stop Ballard or Collins being ball magnets as we haphazardly kick the ball forward.
