it was a good goal, I love goals, my a favorite part of the game, but why did he get subbed out, I apologise in advance if I have embarrassed you for asking a serious footy question but I'm genuinely interesting in the answer.

Anyone who understands the game know why?
Richmond subbed off a ruckman and brought on a running player. Ross was going to give them an inch, so he too brought on a running mid for a big player.

That, plus it rests Sharman for his next assignment as a defensive forward= Tom Stewart.

Not sure if anyone picked up on this but his tackling technique was slightly different this week, there was 2 tackles of note, including the Vlaustin tackle where the tackle started off in his customary intimate hug/sexual advance and ended with a more traditional attempt to take the player to ground. Possible the coaches have been trying to train the more feminine tackling technique out of him.

Anyway don’t say I can’t spot the positives.

He can take the odd grab and kick straight

11 possessions and 2 goals - and one VG mark and goal

Did ok

Stewart did have 30 disposals and take 13 marks

I would like to see more in his game than mark-kick at his size

Potential for sure.

IF, big IF, he gets 50 games in a row into him he could be great.

And didn't we plan and execute beautifully, to completely nullify any impact Stewart had?

50 games in a row isn't that common an achievement.

Definitely isnt, I meant 50 in the seniors...to really boost his development in the role.

Not sure we marked Stewart with anyone in particular ..... there were times I saw him marking a variety of Saints players big and small ..... either way his influence was minor despite the amount of times he had it

FWIW Sharmans 2 goals came from marks .... one against Kolodjashnij and the other over Stewart

Stewart had bugger all impact on the game, Sharman actually had more impact than Stewart.

Cooper couldn’t get a game early in the season when both King & Membrey were injured.

He didn’t give up and I assume worked on the areas of his game that the coaches instructed him to in an extended stretch in the VFL.

Now he is in the team, playing a role and making a decent contribution, this seemed very unlikely in the first 1/4 of the season.

I’m not sold on him being a 150 game player or cementing his place long term, but I admire him getting back in and having a crack and playing some good footy. I like him, he enjoys a goal and is looking more confident each week.

It’s amazing the confidence a player builds when they feel they can string a few games together and not be dropped.

I’d love to see him make it as he has an elite leap and is a good set shot at goal. If he could clunk a few he gets his hands to he’ll become a dangerous forward.

Really? That surprises me! You’ve been arguing all week that players should not push past their limitations. Seems pretty reasonable to me that if Ross isn’t expected to lift his arm to spoil a chest mark then Cooper shouldn’t be expected to develop an elite tank

Cooper has a massive tank

Ground level footy is his weakness as he lacks agility. He needs to work on that.

I also think he had more impact than Stewart. Stewart had some impact and Cooper had some impact.

I’m inclined to agree with BM. As good as it was to see him kick a couple of goals, one of them a ripper, there were many times he didn’t make a contest when we needed him to. If he can’t run and jump he’s not much else. Needs more agility, more of a tank, stronger body. Right now he’s adequate and probably doing more than Caminiti was. He’s certainly improved but threads being started vindicating his position are still bemusing to me.

As with all players I don’t really rate, ie Billings, Gresham, I would love to be proven wrong and take zero delight in I told you so threads where ppl proclaim they were right about a player being a dud.

PS thought Gresh was busy last night. Just so desperately need him to be a better finisher

Go back & watch the reply B.M. Stewart & Sharman weren’t matched against each other all the time over 4 quarters.

Stewart was often on Phillipou, and ran off him many a time, the kid couldn’t go with him most times.
Stewart was often left to cover Higgins.
I also noticed him standing Tim Members twice.

Stewart never followed Sharman when he roamed into the defensive 50 and became a link player.

Don’t think it’s fair to compare Stewart & Sharman’s disposal counts, when they weren’t always opponents.

I think RTB is very shrewd with his use of Sharman over the past few games - keep ‘em guessing Ross!

Just watched replay
What’s neglected is Sharmans clever touches and ball use in play - blind turn in the middle and give off
Or this hit up out wide to Membrey
He doesn’t waste it
Obvious talent
Only a halfwit think differently

I think he has a couple of tricks - can jump, has endurance, can take a catch every now and then - a very good kick

Weaknesses
Low productivity, strength, agility, ground level ability

He has played 30 games in basically the hardest spot on the ground, CHF or at least a decoy HF.
He played wing part of the night the other night.
In a team of poor goal kickers he is a beacon of light
Un predictable X factor can play anywhere, he could be anything under RTB
Hope he stays in.

As for Stewart he gets so much junk possession, the stats are misleading.
Stewart struggles to defend 1 on 1 these days, he is slowing up and in a middling team now, not the same player or quality of stats.
