Won't know until next year.

A very good effort and in a final think we’d up the pressure

We could play them this year at "home" in the Grand Final. It's as close to "home" as we will ever get in a final. In any event, they killed us at Docklands.

Re: That's a win in my book
I think we were incredibly lucky to be still in it at half time. But we really came good in the second half, and were perhaps a bit unlucky with some of the umpires' calls.
So, it was an encouraging performance. We're a good chance to win our first final, regardless of who we play. After that, it will be tough, but you never know.

Re: That's a win in my book
I don't regard it as a "win" simply because we will probably have to go interstate for our final. But, we did better than most thought we would - including me. Just how much of a difference Max will make we will see in a couple of weeks. It was necessary for Hayes to have a game. He stays in the team and Sharman goes out. Battle will be OK. I would prefer Billings to be in the 22 because he has skill. That probably means Marcus Windhager has to go out. It's a pity that neither McKenzie nor Coffield seem ready. If either were, I'd boot out Webster. An absolute dud at this level.

Windhager? What sort of weed are ya smokin' man? 22 possessions as a running hbf in a crowded pressure game was no mean effort! You need rehab, man!perfectionist wrote: ↑Sat 26 Aug 2023 8:49pm I don't regard it as a "win" simply because we will probably have to go interstate for our final. We did ok. Flattering margin.
Their list is way superior to ours. Arguably the best list in the AFL.

Possibly unlucky not to be in the top four.
Brisbane were in a pressure game all night and they knew it. They played our game.
King and Howard would have made us a lot luckier I reckon.

Re: That's a win in my book
It is unfair on Webster to single him out. Charlie tore him a new one but he would have done that to anyone we put on him with the number of forward 50 entries we let them have.
If they had kicked straight it would have been a 10 goals loss. We were soundly flogged. We came back at them a bit in the second half but as soon as we got close they went up a gear and barely looked worried.

OP couldn't be further from the truth. They absolutely flogged us apart from the 3rd quarter and if they kick straight they win by 10 goals or more. They had 61 inside F50 entries to our 38 and doubled us in stoppage clearances, thats a smashing.

Don’t disagree. Miles ahead. They’re ready now - we’ve barely started building a proper nucleus.
But they’re coached by Captain Snooze and we’re not.

I don’t rate Fagan either. He has a super list.

Re: That's a win in my book
I’m not as negative towards Fagan as others, but I think Brisbane will struggle to kick winning scores in big games. As we saw last night: Daniher is extremely unreliable under pressure, Hopwood can be kept very quiet by a good defence and, as he gets older, Cameron remains a dangerous player and still good for 2-3 goals per game, but my sense is that, as he gets older, he is increasingly looking to get goal side of the ball, which reduces his impact on general play a bit compared to what he was like a couple of seasons back.
Collingwood and the Demons look more dangerous with the ball for mine. Brisbane most likely will go out in the PF, I reckon.

Re: That's a win in my book
I missed the 3rd quarter
From what I saw, the scoreline flattered St Kilda. Brisbane should have won by 35+ points I reckon. Not a thrashing, but a very comfortable win.
St Kilda were smashed at clearances, no?
We made loads of errors.
But just seeing the ease the Brisbane defenders took it away and cleared the ball. It was a totally dominant display, Their forward line is weak and patchy.
I wouldn't be over joyed at the result.....except I am!
We lost by a couple of goals, were a point done in the last !
Well done Saints, But we have a long way to go.

Re: That's a win in my book
It's true that Brisbane's inaccuracy in front of goal kept St Kilda in the game, but a lot of that was due to superb defensive pressure by the backline, which stood up to the test against a preniership contender.
Andrews and Payne took 12 intercept marks between them, I was suprised to see that Sharman appeared not to be in a defensive role on Andrews, as he's done with considerable success in other games.
Umpires favouring the Lions 21-13 meant they invariably had the better of the 50/50s, and losing clearances 43-27 was a major factor in them controlling the game.
All in all despite Brisbane seemingly domninating, I agree with Lyon's comments that it was a good workout for the team heading into the elimination final.
Conversely, on the basis of that performance I doubt if Brisbane will go all the way.

Brisbane Lions.
The bookies have anointed them as equal flag favourites.
Port Adelaide beat them in Round 1 by 54 points.
I think Melbourne and Port will win their qualifying finals

That means, if we beat GWS we are back at the Gabba for the semi and, if we beat them, we are at the MCG against the pies in the prelim. I've got a lot of if's there...lol
