Maverick

How did you rate Phillipou and Caminiti’s performance?

Both very poor BM - not arguing they did much at all.
Pou should have been rested weeks ago and brought back in for the last 3 rounds

However
Clark was average to poor
Seb was average to poor
Crouch was average

They are the real worry and the ones that cost us

Pou and caminiti would have been better if our senior players, particularly on ballers were better - it’s the flow on that youngsters thrive on

Look at fletcher in Brisbane - he does not play that well without the senior mids doing what they do

Seb got votes by a few on here - I didn’t think he was great - but had 24 and worked hard - Seb had played 1 game in 7 weeks

Crouch was pretty average but had 21 - he wasn’t a passenger - he just didn’t play out of his skin

Steele had 38, Marshall 31, Hill played well - so not all senior players were poor - though Battle, NWM and Webster played ok too

Not everyone was poor

But the kids, especially in the first half - were passengers
Caminiti 3 possessions
Windhager 3 possessions
Phillipou 2 possessions
Owens 5 possessions

There’s 4 absolute passengers

Goddard was a number 1 pick and future 300 gamer dual AA, B&F and Captain

Not sure Phillipou has anywhere near the potential of BJ
He's going be better than BJ.
That remains to be seen. Hope you’re right, but supporters telling each other how good certain players are going to be without any real evidence so far, is fraught with danger.

Nick Cox was GOING to be a superstar after 2021. Jaidyn Stephenson was GOING to be a star after 2018, the list goes on and on. I’ve been reading on here for decades how good our young players are going to be. Most of the time it’s speculation based on one or two great games. Billings a classic example. Some of our kids have shown legitimate star qualities for the first time since 2003, but Pou isn’t one of them. NWM and Owens are
You can bookmark it. The only thing that will stop him will be injury or ill health.

He’ll want to be better than he was in the last 6 games of the season

He only made it to double figures 2 times!

And this is the reason expectation of even NWM and Owens should be tempered, the benchmark is a player who can develop into a Grand Final Type, we continually rate players on the wrong measurement scale and announce them as stars extremely prematurely. Maybe that's because we've been poor for so long, but this list is well short of being a sustainable top 4 side and as Lyon said after the final, it's going to take time to build. We should even expect not to play finals next year as we got lucky with some results around us on the ladder, I doubt the coaches have overrated this list based on that finals appearance.

Can’t believe seb got votes but anyway

The passengers as you say, 3 of them are forwards and are not high possession winners generally, but when you are getting smashed and our disposal efficiency is very poor they stand very little chance

They all would have played much better with a winning midfield, that is my point.

I didn’t say all senior players were poor, just too many of the midfield - only Steele could say he had a good day.

BM - what are your thoughts on Clark, he had every chance to perform?

Clark is a good footballer and a poor athlete

He has a good step and good vision

He is pretty clean, and very courageous

His kicking is ok, nothing special

His running ability is really poor!

His game on Saturday not his abilities overall

I think his kicking is overrated, he misses too many kicks for mine

It’s overrated because he kicks on his left a bit, and we think he is dual sided. He actually fluffs a lot of kicks.

On the weekend a typical Clark game

Some ok bits of play, but 19 possessions = not enough

Just doesn’t run and spread well enough

Mids need to be clocking up 25-30 as a minimum

Just watched the replay again and gee I got to say we were soft, and many of our senior players were the offenders.

I know the Members event had to have an effect of some magnitude but we were well off it, in physicality and skills.

Last December???

Multiple times I have mentioned he will be a player - absolute potential

You conveniently forgot to mention that

Do I think he’ll be a 300 game Champion possibly? But probably not??? That ok, few are… he will be a good player from what I see.

BJ was the best kid in the country easily in his draft year. Was destined to be a champion.

It’s not negativity with me, it’s reality!

If people want to live in fairyland that’s their thing!

I’ve followed this club for 40 years and have been right with my ‘negativity’ more than wrong!
If Phillipou was just a week older and played the year in the under 18's he'd probably be the best young player in the country.

Id reserve my judgement til next year.

He will be so much better for the year he just had.

He can safely hit the gym, develop some muscle and strength, add 3-5 kg and rotate off high half forward with Owens, who is already a unit.
