Re: No trades with swans
Yeah Dempster, Schneider and Membrey were all disasters.
The Swans have been good and fair trade partners over many years and I would rather trade with them than many other clubs.

Re: No trades with swans
One of the best clubs to trade with in my opinion.
We were very well compensated for Lockett, Hall & O'Brien.
While the Schneider / Dempster deal is still among our most beneficial of all time.

Re: No trades with swans
I actually can’t think of many trades with the Swans where we have lost out?
If you’re referring to Plugger and Hall, we were compensated. Both went on to become cult figures at the club, but it’s not as if they walked for nothing.
There was Tommy Gun, but he didn’t become what either we or the Swans had hoped he would become, so no party was better or worse off.

Re: No trades with swans
Well compensated for Lockett? You must be f****** joking.
We got a used condom, a packet of stale chips and a chewing gum wrapper for the greatest full forward to play the game and probably the saints best player.

An AFL orchestrated reaming of the St Kilda Football Club. Not the first time by the AFL and certainly not the last

Re: No trades with swans
Unfortunately, which was a trend of the time the players picked and those taken in trade were not quality.
Joel Smith could have been anything and again the injury curse struck thanks to Richard Osborne and collingwood.
Hemley, Nugent, Robert Neill and Josh Kitchen.
Neill played in 1997 GF coming in for Matthew Young who was injured but did nothing , I like many though Shane Wakelin would have been a better option.
Not quite Ian Stewart trade disaster but not pretty

He's gotta be in his 50's and not on our list. Maybe we should rookie list him.

Re: No trades with swans
We were completely fkd in the Lockett deal
Hall was ok - pick 13 (Dal)
Dempster and Schneider for 26 is probably our best ever value trade
Membrey - Super

I would rather trade with the Swans than Essendope.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: No trades with swans
So we have Club X and Dildorro. Is the theme we're f***ed?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: No trades with swans
I just looked up the trade and we got 3 picks 5,13, and 48 and a handful of nothing players. That brought us Joel Smith who was a great player that we screwed over and Aussie Jones and we wasted pick 13. We were not screwed in the deal as Plugger only played another 98 games and we got two 200 gamers. The deal was fine but we could have done more with it.

No good blaming the other side when you make ridiculous decisions on trading.

48 was always a saints pick.SinCitySainter wrote: ↑Sat 16 Sep 2023 12:39pm I just looked up the trade and we got 3 picks 5,13, and 48 and a handful of nothing players. 2 x 200 gamers....bulshit.
Don't try re writting history FFS. Smith played only 58 games for the saints.
Hardly fair compensation as I saId before.

Re: No trades with swans
We didn’t offer him a contract because coming off Two knee Recos
We thought he was done
He played another 150 games was a All Australian and best & fairest
