Hmmm it really wouldn’t be a good for the club to recruit Thomas now:

I fkn hate footy taking a stand on issues it has fk all to do with

Footy is two hours a week you get to forget life’s troubles and barrack for you team

Not get social issues rammed down you r throat

I am a former serviceman who served in the gulf in 92

I even hate the fact that moron Collingwood fans think their club is somehow significant on ANZAC day.

The AFL's "stand" on social issues is not genuine it's marketing think.
Great concern for mental health, other medical causes, the vulnerable - sponsored by big betting. Greenwashing a huge social evil.
The Anzac ceremonies are very moving however the Collingwood v Essendon "tradition " is a contrived blockbuster; should be shared, if equity is a serious justice value. Transparent greed is the driver of the AFL.

St Dillon and Sister Laura are in thrall of $ broadcasters and betting industry not charitable works to mould society. They just peddle that snake oil.

A sport that doesn’t exist in a bubble. Otherwise you are saying players can have Carte Blanche to do whatever they want, seeing societal issues have no impact on the outcome of sports.

Wasn’t we frustrated recently for having such games

Pride Game etc

Or was that just excuses for losses?!

Didn’t RTB when he was allude to the fact we need to prioritise winning football rather than being distracted by side issues??

Bollocks. Are all people in society responsible for stepping up and reducing cruelty to animals? After all, it's human beings that inflict cruelty on domesticated animals!

The fact is that in the 12 months ending June 30 last year, 70% of all murder victims in Australia were male. And that percentage is consistent over many years, so why is it that only female victims are newsworthy? Approximately 33% of all victims of domestic violence are male, why are we only interested in gendered violence against women? Across society in general, males are about 4 times more likely than females to be a victim of violence, so why is it only violence against females that we are concerned about - why is that so much more deserving of attention?

The government has caused financial distress through its inept policies which is putting a lot of pressure on households and causing all sorts of problems for families like domestic violence. But the government wants us to point the finger at other men.

Which government?

The one led by Albo that's been there for a tick over a year or the ones who were in power for the last decade plus?

The big Swinging Dick club was all about making women in the Liberal party feel safe and valued... wasn't it?

I am definitely on the left / liberal / progressive side of this debate.
But figures like these (assuming they're true) I think absolutely need to be understood and taken into account if we're going to get a real line of perspective on the whole issue.

The world is a lot more complex than all the simple narratives put together.
Ideals of justice, though, need to be put simply to cut through and inspire.
Let's not be so rigid that we form impenetrable battlelines.

I don't entirely trust figures like these coming from what I imagine are probably "anti-woke" channels.
Dis Believer, would you like to send me/us an official source for them?
Whatever they actually are, they require consideration.

When a men fight one of them sometimes dies. When men fight women, guess who dies. How many of your 70% of male murder victims were killed by women?
