Careers at StK ruined

Post: # 2054816Post B.M »

By injury

These are ones players never came back or looked like being players but never came back the same

Either not rehabilitated properly or injury was career ending or they lost confidence in their body

Luke Ball OP 22yo
Matt Maguire Leg fracture 23yo
Aaron Hamill Degenerative Knee (Was 28 at the time)
Barry Brooks ACL 20yo
Xavier Clarke 2 x ACL and multiple soft tissue 24-26yo
Raph Clarke Back and back related hamstring 21yo
Leigh Fisher Hamstring tendon rupture 19yo
Matt Ferguson Multiple concussions ongoing from 20yo
Fergus Watts Ankle Fracture 21yo
Jarryd Allen Hip Socket fracture 20yo
Luke Penny Hip injury 24yo
Justin Koschitzke Back 19yo, Quad 22yo Concussion 24yo
Paddy McCartin Severe Concussion
Hugh Goddard Ruptured Achilles Tendon
Daniel McKenzie soft tissue Ongoing
Jade Gresham Achilles Tendon rupture

Joel Smith ACL x 2 21yo
Jason Cripps Hamstring Tendon rupture 22yo

There would be many more!

Even going back to Oakley, Gleeson, McIntosh, Bonney

There was a dominant CHF/Ruck in the 60s to who also succumbed to injury in his mid twenties but his name escapes me

I’d go so far as to say - without a couple of massive injuries to Plugger Ankle, Back and Groin he would’ve been even greater!!!

This one was tough...He chose to go to Hawthorn when injured because they offered him a better deal.
Was missed in the RW&B

Gee Luke Ball’s career sure was ruined. All the way to a premiership medallion.

Anyway, AFL is a sport that produces lots of injuries. Also, the Docklands Stadium was pretty s__t until the mid-2010s, causing lots of soft tissue injuries for players in all the clubs who played there regularly.

Runner up B&F in a prelim team at 20yo
Best and Fairest in a prelim team in 05 and AA at 21yo

Never got anywhere near that level again

Possibly about Seb Ross level post 2006 when he was as good as anyone in the AFL at 21

Smith was 1 x acl and a medial or pcl at the same time
Penny was bone on bone knee, was set to be that AA defender
Kosi was a real shame
Jarrod Allen too, I liked him
Ball was costly, so costly

Does Dylan Roberton count?

Would have been great to have in our current side.

Dylan Roberton definitely counts - still playing MPNFL

Sean Dempster to a lesser degree - he was old but retired prematurely with concussion

Chuck Koby Stevens in there who I was beginning to like quite a bit. Was never going to be a superstar but was coming into his own in the team I thought before concussion ended his career also

Didn’t Rod Owen have chronic hamstrings?

Matt Maguire also suffered a terrible concussion after a head on collision in 2005, didn’t he?

Is the point of this thread to question the integrity of the club’s medical staff (past and present)? If so, it seems a valid question to ask.

No - point of the thread is the ridiculous amount of bad luck we’ve had - and not just injuries- career ending/ruining injuries

Injuries are just that - bad luck - it’s a high speed collision game

We’ve had our fair share

I think Rod Owen did a knee

Maguire definitely broke his leg
