Four games in a row at the Dome ... was that a record?

Post: # 429012Post Oh When the Saints »

The Saints faced the Dogs after a six-day break and four matches in a row at Telstra Dome ...

The ground is supposed to be a lot harder on the body than other "normal" grounds, and recovery is meant to be harder after playing on the surface.

I wonder if our lack of run and seemingly low energy levels from some players was due to the cumulative effect of 4 weeks in a row at the ground?

I'm not excusing the poor performance .... but just wondering if the Telstra Dome surface was a factor?

Was it a record? I don't believe we have ever played 4 in a row at the Dome ... maybe the Bombers have?

Almost right OWTS

From R22 2000 to R3 2001 we played 4 consecutive games at Docklands (1 win)
From R4 2003 to R7 2003 we played 4 consecutive games at Docklands (3 wins)
From R15 2007 to R18 2007 we played 4 consecutive games at Docklands (3.5 wins)

But the grand-daddy of them all was way back at the start

From R5 2000 to R12 2000 we played 8 consecutive games at Docklands (1 win - against Port with Hall kicking 6)

Geez, imagine how the legs would have felt in 2000 with all those games at the Dome.

Thanks Enrico.

Its an interesting theory actually....Might be something to it.

Last year on our third game in a row off a 6 day break we looked cumbersome against the Cats and were well beaten.

The Bulldogs were playing their 5th game in a row at the Dome.

Next theory?

EDIT: they play there next week too.

Yes but they have been the home term more often.

Wearing away shorts is less stress on the legs.

Well, they were flat too ... :)

Who do they play next week? I would put money on a Dogs loss next week, unless they play the Tigers or Demons.

Ah well ... my theory will remain unproven.

Actually Jeff Dunne, I was totally correct.

The Bulldogs looked flatter than pancakes.

They could hardly run at all and Melbourne completely destroyed them.

I reckon you could see a certain amount of fatigue in our players after playing at the Dome four weeks in a row.

My prediction is that we will have a lot more energy, desire and presence against the Dockers next week.

Interesting OWTS.

Not sure if it proves the theory but it's certainly a strong case for it.

Strange how this theory just keeps proving itself

I reckon the Dogs will win this week ... not sure who they play, but they were away from Telstra Dome and will have freshened up.

The Saints should still be fine because we've only had one week on the ground, although we won't be quite as fresh as we might otherwise have been ....

And the pattern continues JD.

The Kangaroos played four weeks in a row at Telstra Dome.

They front up at the MCG this week, but tired legs mean they are fatigued and lack the energy levels of their opponents.

And the Cats are belting them.

Watch how much fresher the Roos will look next week against the Hawks, having played at the MCG this week.

I heard on the pregame a mention of the Kangaroos and their past 4 games and I thought of this thread.

You're starting to win me over with this argument and it's certianly worth a closer look. When I get a chance I might do some more statistical analysis because individual games like today could be attributed to other issues.

TBH in this game, I reckon the Cats got on top because of some unbelievably one-sided umpiring. The Kangaroos weren't getting reward for effort in the first qtr and Geelong have all the confidence in the world now to take the game on. Christ I wish our defenders could get away with what Scarlett is allowed to do.

I think you guys might be on to something. Lets hope that the club/AFL have/are/will conduct some meaningful research into this !!

Are you suggesting we move our "home" base to The G ?

Not quite Enrico, but the theory continues to prove itself.

The Kangaroos were fresher and had more run last night ... the week off the hard surface of Telstra Dome did wonders for their energy levels.

I would love someone with the time to do a statistical analysis of this.
