brett voss
not many stats but could have had three goals and i thought was very important as the third forward option
his courage also helped keep the ball in the fifty several times
is an important hard player for the next few weeks

Thought he would have been given a better run by Lyon this year given his hardness and accountability as a backman.
Hasnt really been given a set position which makes it hard. Hope he can settle for the rest of the year. Like his brother a good honest player

My behaviour is considered acceptable in some far off remote exotic countries...
saw him do a lot of chasing, a lot of harrassing a lot of shepherding.
when he didn't mark the ball, he contested hard on the ground.
he did bust a few freo players running through.
when he did chase, he saw that birss was running with him, when he noticed birss wasn't shepherding for him, he stopped and shepherded for birss. (birss muffed it afterwards) but the fact is he plays team footy, he could have gone for the ball, and would have beaten his team mate, but would have then been under pressure, but no he did the team and disciplined thing.
A lot of idiots look at his stats and dont appreciate what he brings to the team.
as for 'slow' lot of slower players than V2, and as for pace, lot of players faster than v2 who don't do anything with the ball when they have it.
very good game.

room for v2 and attard in the side at the moment.Saints43 wrote:I posted last week that any gameplan that suits/fits Attard and not Voss didn't seem right. Voss did well. Can do better. I hope he gets the opportunity to show RL how valuable/versatile he can be.
birss looks to be struggling at the moment though.
IMO ball may or may not front up next week, max is in doubt definately and harvey is in doubt so there are potentially 3 outs
max
ball
harvey
thats 2 quality midfielders and a fast defender.
also birss was ordinarly
who to come in?
Birss will be ensured another game by way of injuries so probably one defender and another midfielders.
I'm hoping mqualter or armitage can step up. (not CJ unless he has a blinder in the magoos)
and one defender? gwilt?

mmm haven't seen the stats, but saw birss fumble the ball a lot and turn it over a lot, he did look slow and under pressure buckled.Oh When the Saints wrote:I thought Birss was quite good actually ... spent a bit of time on the bench in the first half, and managed to gather a bit of the footy ... had a couple of good I/50's which resulted in goals.
i think the fast game we played yesterday it seemed to me exposed him a bit, probably in my opinion he's a bit like blake, in that he needs to either do it fast or he is gone.
but then two people see the same game and see different things.
suprised x didn't get a mention in the best of the saints, he seemed to be in everything and seemed better than raph,
As for V2 back to topic,
he looked so good marking, so disciplined in spoiling, and while his kicking was a bit off, his 1%ers were gold.
he adds a bit of steel to the forward line and back line.

Have watched the game live...and also on replay now...
Birss played a good solid game.....only real error was the brain fade when he was tackled which cost us a goal. Birssy did a lot of good solid work in packs...and generally used the ball well.
Voss, was not, very good...but played a fair and useful game...with good kicking at goal to make the most of the ball he did win (and good kicking at goal has beena proble with some players...ie X last week). The start of his game was dreadful giving away silly frees and no pace to run ontoa ball that was kick long to him...should have been a goal but was not. The rest of his game was solid.
Both players worked hard and did team things. Neither very good...but both played useful games.

Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Voss's only position in the team is as a forward marking option, and he did this quite well on the weekend. Takes a little pressure of G and Roo, and with Kosi back should be able to sneak a few in the comming weeks.
He cannot be used in any other positions any more, particularly down back, as his pace has dropped and is not as athletic as he once was, in that being able to get to contest after contest. In that, he is still a lovely mark and kick for goal, and a few possies a week resulting in 2/3 goals is more than enough.
Should definitely be his last year, but may play a useful role moving towards the finals...

How hard is it to give a hard nut like Brett Voss a game when the thing we lack most is hardness in our foward 50. Without Hamill giving us that hard edge we need Vossy to step and give us some hardness around the contest.
So tell me how hard has it been watching the ball come out of our forward line?

yes. He needs to be offered another contract first thoughsaintsRrising wrote:Sweeney is certainly one player who I HOPE can step up next year for some games......Otiman wrote:If there's anyone to compare, it's Voss and Sweeney.
Another medium forward option...who hasa knack of kicking goals would be very handy.
Robert Harvey- Simply the best
