Pre Season Training Before Christmas - Objectives

Post: # 480756Post Seaford_Saint »

I read an interesting article containing a few quotes from Leigh Matthews today - as usual "Lethal" struck a chord with me... key message.... The first 3 months of pre-season training for the Lions is all heavily skewed towards development of 'self' as opposed to 'team' - ' team' comes later in January, February & March.

I think this makes great sense.

Here's my take on a few development of 'self' objectives for our boys...

Nick Dal Santo - gut running
Xavier Clarke - kicking for goal
Jason Gram -gut running (with a view of moving into the midfield for a high % of game time)
Justin Koschitske - how to kick 100 goals a season - as authored by Fraser & Plugger
David Armitage - gut running
Clint Jones - "the drop punt 101"
Adam Fiora - how to kick goals on the run
Raph Clarke - taking the 1st option

I'm sure not everyone agrees with my 'off the top of the head' objectives above, but focussing on 'self' for 2-3 months sure makes alot of sense to me.

Failure cannot succeed in the face of persistence......

Is'nt it odd that before this season Fiora was one of the most reliable shots for goal from 50 on the run in the league. I wonder what happened to change him.

The whole team, gut running, so we dont fade out in final quarters. Fitness has to be the main priority.

And hack pup is out again, bowled without troubling the scorers.

Good stuff MSG. but if harv's had to hold himself to a 5k. run he couldn't sleep. (30k. runs on Christmas or New Years day, what a pro)

Blake - Dont conveniently fall down at every contest creating the illusion that you are actually giving an effort.

Milne - Stop being a selfish hog. Only call for the ball when you are in a better position.

R Clarke - Stop kicking the ball to X.

Rix - TRY harder.
