A few 80's games on YouTube

Post: # 513818Post saint66au »

Someone has uploaded a bunch of 80's VFL game snippets on Youtube recently...Found these Saints ones...

1987 GF St Kilda v Carlton

Round 4 1986 St KIlda v Hawthorn at Moorabbin

ROund 11 1986 St KIlda v Geelong at VFL Park

1986 Round 15 v Hawthorn at MCG

IF there any more feel free to post them....its a great lil time capsule each clip even though they are only a few minutes each and the quality's not great

Who was the little 29 for St Kilda?

Nice to see a couple of old teammates of mine playing, albeit from Carlton. Ian Herman (#25) (Collegians in the VAFA) and Andrew Phillips (#19), a very handy tennis player.

A link came up for another youtube file of a news report of a St Kilda V Carlton game in Tassie in 1992.

Features Plugger v Silvagni, Harvey, Winmar etc.

Gary Odgers wore no. 29 between 1981 and 1987. Played 91 games mostly as a back pocket player. Not a bad player for his day.

Thanks Robbie.

Should've remembered Odgers.

Cheers,
Kevin Smith

The Ressies GF is incredibly interesting stuff, I assume thats the high point of the Saints in that most horrible decade of the 80s?

Ahh the memories!

I was lucky enough to be at the G for the 1987 Ressies premiership - the last St.Kilda day flag.

31 degrees - make that about 40 in the sun near the old scoreboard on the top deck of the old Ponny stand where I sat!

nope, Plugger getting a 100 goals in 1987 was, along with his brownlow.

Plugger was GOD in the 80's!

20 years ago - it was a bloody hot day, I remember that - obviously not the result though!

....so the sun obviously got to my head!

Up until 1997, Warrick Green used to say he was the last person to captain St Kilda in a grand final.

Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

That was also where I was sitting that day.
Perhaps you were sitting near me.
And yes it was bloody hot.
Took off my shirt and got a sunburnt back.

Not a good day though.
I was surrounded by Carlton scum.
Had to endure losing to them in the 2's.
Then I quietly barracked for Hawthorn to crunch them in the big one.
Then after the game I had some Carlton mates come round and insist on watching the replay.

Another disappointing day in a disappointing decade.

only 7000 at hawks v saints at moorabbin in 86? Jeez, I hardly missed a game between 77 and 92 there, and I dont remember crowds being that small, though I do remember some empty looking outer sometimes.

Always sounded louder than 7000 odd. weird.
