Pointless fact - 7 players with their surname starting with G. And that's without Gwilt in the side.
Like the look of that MSG.
Thought Fiora was soft as butter last night. He just didn't make enough contests into genuine contests. Too easily pushed off the ball and out of the contest.
Is in my opinion, a waste of space and wouldn't have him in the team again. Jones adds pace, so not so sure about dropping him.
If BJ and Frase are right, they're definite ins, so two at least have to go. Also Blake. Who would go for him?
It's going to be tough at the selection table if everyone stays fit and Goose and Bakes are available as well. Good to see the competition for spots being tough. As well as the above, there's Armitage and Allen as well.

Lyon will make at least 10 replays of CJ's mark compulsory viewng every night this week.
He can't go and say this is how I want you to play and then drop the guy.
Conclusion: CJ will be in the team next week.

Tough selection week, but FWIW...

IN: Gehrig, Goddard

OUT: C. Gardiner, Fiora

Max must get Fevola (with the rucks dropping back)

Judd and Murphy have to be tagged (Gilbo and L. Fisher)

Hayes should pick up Stevens and should win that battle, Stevens disposal is suspect and with Lenny making him earn it, should work in our favour.

Waite will take Roo
Thornton on Kosi
O'Hailpin on G

I think our small forwards and on-ballers should benefit from this as those defenders will need a bit of help from their other backs and on-ballers, as in filling holes and being 3rd man up.

I would like to see Armo given a go, just to play against Gibbs to see how they match up as on-ballers. I cannot think of anyone to go at this stage as I agree I don't believe Jones will be dropped.

Match Ups

Montagna on Murphy

L Fisher on Judd

Max on the Piddler

Bally on Stevens

That leaves Lenny, X and Harvs to create out of the middle !!

a great game from maxy. if kosi converted more of his chances he wouldve kicked a bag and been bog. rooey tried hard and was double-teamed by bolton and leo barry so he did well under the circumstances.

if raph clarke isn't dropped ross lyon isn't the right man for the job.

thought L.fisher's game was overrated and he would be embarrased by judd pace-wise.

Birss is underrated - would be happy for him to take judd or even bally, who had some tagging roles last yr. does anyone have an update on armitage's form? he was a gun in the nab cup, what happened?

expect saints to lift from this week and humiliate carlton. 50pt win.

cheers

Having him play in the left pocket to favor his left boot with Kosi playing the square will be awesome.

I tip a massive free flowing game.....i expect us to kick around 20 goals.
Big call ... considering we havn't kicked 20 goals since Late 2006.

Does Richmond coincide with our game?

Cos Kane could give expert comments as a boundary piddler.... er rider.

I don't think we should play Riewoldt, according to all the Carlton fans Waite has won the battle hands down. Surely we have much better options.

Joking of course

as i wrote in another thread, the main concern over at Tanking Carlton is how to stop the 3 Divas. they seem intimidated by our power forwards. here are some of their worries:
God knows how were going to stop Reiwoldt, Kosi and Gehrig
I like Waite on Reiwoldt, Jamison on Gehrig and Setanta on Kosi. Either way you look at it we will be undersized. Its up to these defenders to help each other.
How the hell do we stop the Krauts. all those Germans in that side. Our only hope is if they decide to march insted of run
For me Jamison on the G-Train, Waite on Reiwoldt, Carlos on Kozi and T-Bird on Charlie Gardiner. The key against the Saints is stopping Fisher, Gilbert, Gram and the Clarkes running from defence
they're really quite respectful about us apart from the smarta#se who calls us "St Failure"

Play Ball on Judd. Didn't work a couple of years ago and made Ball look second rate, but Judd has slowed down he's ready to be destroyed by Ball.

Fiora played quite well, and Liegh Fish had a blinder, so cant see Blake coming in this week... Cant have both of them running around as run withs either... So unless Fish goes back to the backline, Blake will miss...

G and BJ to return... a forward and a utility..

Drop C. Gardiner and CJ...

As good as CJ was/tries, he is just not upto it.. 100% effort, but skills and brain not there..

Raph was brilliant as third man up and supporting Max and chips in marking contests.. he dopped into holes tme and time again.. Hall would have kicked 3 or 4 more if not for Raph cutting his leads... next game, watch put for how he peels off to help out...

Sure he has his 1 or 2 brain fades a game, but they will clear up.. His taking the next step is not far away...

This isnt the first time Leigh has shut down a key opposition midfielder. I recall him nullifying Sam Mitchell or another Hawthorn player during our match late last year.

I can imagine a Fisher/Ball team tag on Judd, similar to the Thompson/Powell tags we used to play (particularly well on Scott West).

I think we might send Ball to Judd, looked quick enough so far this year, tackles very well and it should get him where the ball is. I would let Hayes run with Stevens, they will feel like they win because he has no tag but Lenny will smash him IMO.

Are Scneider and Milne both safe?????

Statistically the worst 2 players on the ground last week.

Maybe this year?

Ball would be wasted on Judd. Judd is nothing special at the moment. Let Leigh Fisher take him. Stevens is still rusty comming back from injury, he was pretty average against carlton, geting most of his touches on the wing.

Fisher to have Judd, and let their mid field worry about ours. Sam with our forwards.

Max on Fev
Geary on Eddie

ST KILDA
B: Gram, Hudghton, Gilbert
HB: R.Clarke, S.Fisher, X.Clarke
C: L.Fisher, Hayes, Montagna
HF: Harvey, Riewoldt, Schneider
F: Milne, Koschitzke, Gehrig
FOLL: King, Dal Santo, Ball
I/C: M.Gardiner, C.Gardiner, Goddard, Geary
EMG: Jones, Fiora, Allen
In: Goddard, Gehrig
Out: Fiora, Jones

CARLTON
B: O'hAilpin, Jamison, Bower
Extra Man: Thornton
HB: Pfeiffer, Waite, Scotland
C: Gibbs, Judd, Simpson
HF: Carrazzo, Edwards,
F: Betts, Fevola, Kruezer
FOLL: Hampson, Stevens, Murphy
I/C: Hadley, Houlihan, Jackson, Cloke
EM: Grigg, Bannister, Saddington
In: Pfeiffer, Hampson, Krezuer
Out: Hartlett (Susp), Grigg, Bannister

NOTES:

Jones very stiff to be omitted. I eventually made my decision based on game time. Jones had the lowest % of game time in the team bar the regulars in Ball, Harvey and the ruckmen.

Key Matchups:
J.Waite Vs N.Riewoldt
M.Jamison Vs F.Gehrig
S.O'hAilpin Vs J.Koschtizke
P.Bower Vs S.Milne
D.Pfeiffer Vs A.Schneider
B.Thorton Vs C.Gardiner

C.Judd Vs L.Fisher/L.Ball
M.Murphy Vs N.Dal Santo
N.Stevens Vs L.Hayes
K.Simpson Vs L.Montagna

B.Fevola Vs M.Hudghton
J.Edwards Vs S.Fisher
M.Kreuzer Vs R.Clarke (Free's up Gilbert)
E.Betts Vs J.Geary

S.Hampson/C.Cloke Vs S.King/M.Gardiner

On paper we should cleary win, and well. Expect our defence to have a field day. Sam Fisher will be able to run off Edwards with ease. Gram will be run out of defence virtually unopposed, worst case scenario is if they set Ryan Jackson onto him.

Lots of our players will be opposed by someone a league below them, Goddard has the perfect return match.

That said, its all on paper. Carlton need to be respected, even with a poor loss to a poor team on Thursday. However if we play an attacking style of game expect to see our first big win under Ross.

Think that Gehrig will be the only in at Fioras expense.
Lenny Hayes on Judd for mine.Has superior fitness and has that tough edge when required.

Want to see Dal played forward of the centre as an attacking player with sublime delivery to the forwards.Play Fraze deep with Milne and Scnieder underneath. Kosi at true centre half forward and let Roo run Waites legs off.
