OK, here is the scenario:
You are an AFL player, 28 years old, have a drinking problem and likely to be delisted by your club. You spent most of the year playing very average football in the reserves. You still want to play AFL - a 2 year contract of $200,000 a year would be nice.

You forgot to add that you didn't start playing senior AFL until you were 22 so your body has only had the wear and tear of a 24 year old.

so what?

so the guy wants to play afl? he is in melbourne top 5 players. this crap logic that 'he cant get a game for the 16th team so he must be no good" is crap.

everyone knows didak is collingwoods best player and "cant get a game"

the guy is out of favour. disillusioned. depressed with playing with a bunch of complete pansy duds for 5 years so probably turned to the bottle. so what. can he be rehabilitated? probably.

lets judge him on the following:

fitness + endurance
speed
agility
strength
kicking skills
injuries/resilience
attitude to training
attitude to the team and other players
attitude to alcohol

lets judge the guy on his merits over the next few months. as alan jeans said "not many choir boys win premierships".

look id love iit f we had a whole team of sam fishers (great bloke, great player) but that is completely unrealistic. we cant have a whole team of leigh fishers (great citizen but very ordinary football player).

sometimes you need a bit of mongrel.

If you were 28 years old and unfortunate enough to be stuck at a club that is going nowhere but backward you would be stupid NOT to put yourself on the open market.

Can't believe the attitude of some of you.

Surely he deserves another chance...

So what if he wasn't on 500k p.a.

Give the bloke a chance FFS...

Very unforgiving...

Sir Robert must have known he would be knighted if he stayed.
