is saints' window still open? (herald sun)

MOST outsiders probably think the Saints' flag window has closed, yet coach Ross Lyon seems to have a plan and be confident in its outcome. For it to eventuate in ultimate success, Lyon and his coaching staff require a considerable lift from a group of players who promise, tease and titillate but ultimately disappoint.

Just work your way down the St Kilda list and there they are: Nick Dal Santo, Raphael and Xavier Clarke and Justin Koschitzke.

All can play and all can also go missing for extended periods.

Get consistent seasons out of that quartet and the Saints will be a long way to the finals, even a top-four spot to match last season.

To go further they need a fair run with injury so vital players such as Steven Baker and Luke Ball can stay on the ground.

WHERE'S T HE IMPROVEMENT COMING FROM?

For the Saints to go all the way they need a massive injection of talented youngsters.

But are they on the list?

The players who need to take the next step are David Armitage, Eljay Connors, Robert Eddy, Jarryn Geary, Sam Gilbert, McEvoy, Andrew McQualter, Farren Ray and Jack Steven.

Gilbert looks likely as a running defender who can kick a goal while Armitage wins enough of the hard ball but needs to get a few more outside possessions.

etc etc
