In: Simon Clarke (Geelong VFL), Stefan Garrubba (Casey Scorpions), Brett Eddy (Foster), Ricky Ferraro (Dandenong Stingrays), Jarryd Allan, Clay Johnson, Jarryd Robertson (Sandringham Dragons).
Out: Chad Liddell, Ezra Poyas, Chris Lamb, Guy Martyn.
Verdict: How the mighty fell. Widely tipped to finish in the top rungs, Sandy missed the eight for the first time since 2001, an ignominious entry to VFL coaching ranks for Lovell. They were 6-3 after Round 9, but managed only two more victories, falling to ninth. In the second half of the year there was less input from some fading stars, an unending injury list and the distraction of the successful alignment with Melbourne coming to an end. But Lovell got some games into young players Chris Waller, Rennie Gilchrist, Tommy Dean and Andrew McConnell. The Zebras have lost their inspirational captain Chad Liddell and fellow premiership players Chris Lamb and Ezra Poyas, the man who earned the moniker “Mr Septemberâ€

This is going to really hurt the club on and off the field 3 out of the 4 have played a lot of football for the Zebs and are all great leaders and are reknowned for their ability to relate to younger players.
