25 points down. Heads down (worked well for Harvey), bum up and start kicking straight.

Is this the most predictable qtr after our wasted opportunities in the first half?!

Better make amends in the last qtr.
This has been a constant for St. Kilda this past three seasons. We have been a bit protected this season by getting a soft draw until the final six rounds. We are now playing regular finalists and the disparity in our lack of talent compared to the top sides is obvious. Too many turn over merchants for mine - and too many guys not getting their hands on the ball in the centre.

Yep, young players always tire first at this level and this drives home the point of poor decision making and kicking in the first half. This quarter was always coming. North weren't going to roll over and if the half time difference was 40 points we might still be in the game.

We cant just keep asking for effort without scoring aptly. Our kicking skills forward needs tearing apart during the week. Been going on for years but in 2009 we had older, bigger, bodies that were capable of absorbing some of the pressure needed to get clear. Kicking is a basic skill that has been seriously lacking for way too many years and our seniors aren't any better than they were in 2009. First half looked just like the 2009 GF, missed opportunity again.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Just moved in there now. And we won a clearance. Thanks Richo :D

But agree he is good at clearances. Coach not giving him much of a chance instructing him to stay in a fwd pocket.

Josh mate. You need to either kick the goal or centre it from there.

Umpires not a factor really. Its effort that is missing due to tiredness and poorer mental approach in decision making.

When you have 5 goals scored against you in a quarter the coach must intervene with change. Riding the chance that the players will work to the game plan under these circumstances is not acceptable. Sheedy would have swapped the whole team if necessary (like he did against Hawthorn in the 1985 grand final). Maybe the forwards needed to give the backs a break by a total swap?

Newnes just refused to kick it Minch then. Minch was leading 40m in the clear.
He took a 50:50 instead. Disappointing. Turnover. Goal.
