I doubt this deal will happen before Norf secures CCJ.

Does Tom Browne know what the deal for Xerri will cost the Saints.

How do you pronounce Xerri ?

Is it Cherry or Zerry ?

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Xerri sounds like a plan to replace Hunter as our backup ruck.

He would already seem likely to be more capable but with the upside of being young, that he may eventually be better than that. Whereas we know with Hunter that is upside would be little to none.

There's a league player in Sydney with the same surname - pronounced Sherry.

NORTH Melbourne ruckman Tristan Xerri has notified the club that he would like to be traded to St Kilda.

AFL.com.au understands Xerri is keen to explore a move to the Saints, having fallen further down the pecking order at the Kangaroos due to the impending arrival of Tigers youngster Callum Coleman-Jones.

Despite the trade request, which arrived on Wednesday afternoon, North Melbourne is set to reiterate in talks with St Kilda that the 201cm youngster is contracted for next season and is still seen as a key part of the club's future behind the 33-year-old Todd Goldstein.

Xerri played eight games this season towards the back-half of the year, having initially been left out of the side in favour of the experienced Tom Campbell. He has featured 12 times at senior level in four seasons on the club's list.

However, the 22-year-old has emerged as a dominant player at VFL level and finished second in the club's reserves best and fairest after averaging 22 disposals, 26 hitouts and six clearances per game this season.

St Kilda currently has picks No.9, 62, 66, 67 and 85, but is also expected to need draft points to match bids on talented Next Generation Academy players Mitchito Owens and Marcus Windhager. – Riley Beveridge

Bye bye Hunter, thanks for stepping up at short notice in 2021.

North will deal, pretty hard for them to mount an argument about how much they value him. Unless they want to pay out his final year as he dominates VFL.

Why will North play hard ball? He will soon be number four ranked ruckman if he stayed.

The Kangas are not churlish enough to deny him senior opportunities elsewhere.

Pretty sure this will be a straightforward trade with minimal cost to us.

It was this that caught my eye...

"North Melbourne is set to reiterate in talks with St Kilda that the 201cm youngster is contracted for next season and is still seen as a key part of the club's future behind the 33-year-old Todd Goldstein"

I know it's simple posturing, they must do that but it should not be hard to break down & should be straight forward.

To be honest with you, and I am not suggesting you are one, but I'm waiting for all of the naysayers on this forum to write this kid off even though he's only played 8 games of senior footy.

He's 22 and has a lot to learn but he will be learning from one of the best in Paddy Ryder.

I think he has a lot of upside. Clearly so does the club, who no doubt did their homework on him.

They were spot on with Cooper Sharman. Let's hope he turns out to be a beauty.

He’s a back up ruck with good VFL stats and poor AFL stats
Doesn’t play well up forward he’s pure ruck and that’s ok as long as he cheap and does his job then all good
He’s not Gawn

No one is saying he is Gawn. Don't know where you got that from.

He's a 22 year old kid who's played a handful of senior games.

He tears it up in the VFL.

All of that tells you not very much but who knows what he can or can't do.

Clearly the club thinks he has potential. Rucks take a while to develop.

Let's all hope they got another one right.

His nickname is X. How good would it be if he's got a bit of the X factor?

We need it and we deserve it.

Carltons list is as good as ours (at least) as it stands without factoring in those inclusions.

I hope we are still in the window for Ladhams. He is 23 and looks very promising.
If we were getting Ladhams we would not be pursuing Xerri.

Sounds like Sydney are chasing Ladhams they seem to usually get their trades done. Saints were right with picking potential—Sharman and they tried for Draper early on

Ladhams would cost too much trade wise.
Xerri will cost very little.

Sounds ok without seeing the price tag - needs to be smallish.

We don't have much too offer before it becomes a cost benefit negative for us.

We are in no immediate need of a new expensive ruck. Also can wait until Mr X's contract expires in a year if needs be.

North need to consider the opportunity cost of stock piling rucks and disgruntled large men.

A future third round pick? and we undertake not to win by too much when we play them second round 2022.

Not a first tier priority for us but would be handy for sure.

As a due diligence measure there could be a ruck off between Tristan and Paul at Moorabbin. I'd pay to see that. I am hoping a fit PH can improve markedly after his first season baptism of fire. But I saw his snap goal against Carlton in the preseason match and thought that guy looks ok. So there you go - easily persuaded.

In two years, we will be hoping that Max Heath will be starting to hit his straps and be a regular in the seniors.

Right here and now I am so grateful that in the 2021 mid year draft that we focussed on the future, and not the immediate needs in gaining both Heath and Sharman.
Ironically because our 2021 season was not going well we focused on securing the best young talent available, and also went from our initial declared aim of only getting one player to two. Without that second pick we would not have Sharman.

While it would be nice to have Ladhams this year, it would mean foregoing the best young player available at 11, or raiding our 2022 picks which might hamper our ability to land Ben King for 2023.

Swans seem to be keen on Ladhams and so his trade cost will not be bargain basement.

How many 20yo ruckmen ever hit their straps? When was the last one?
Gawn didn't hit his straps until he was 23.
Nic Nat, who is a freak, was still struggling for consistency at 21/22.
Grundy didn't hit his straps until he was 22/23.

I think we need to be extremely patient with Heath.

In two years Heath will only be 20/21

More like 4-5 years for him

He is a capable forward, but that’s it

He is bordering on elite as a ruckman!

After Ryder finishes up, Marshall should be #1 IMO

And a suitable back up
If Sharman comes on we’ll have him, King and Membrey as potential forward targets. Add the resting ruckman and that ought to be enough.

Thing is, with King still growing out of being a gangly kid we have needed another strong physical presence down there. Plus, Ryder is an elite clearance/tap ruckman. Marshall at this stage is merely a good one.

Though ruck is probably Marshall’s best position, I still think he could make a very good key forward. He is just a smart footballer wherever you play him.

Anyway, let’s see how things develop

I think we need to be extremely patient with Heath.
Luke Jackson (Melbourne) drafted in 2019 and has cemented a spot in the ruck with Max Gawn in only his 2nd year.

I am confident Max Heath will break into the seniors at some stage in his 1st year and believe he will be like Luke Darcy (Freo) and become #1 ruckman in his 4th year latest!

Next year's ruck stocks will be Ryder, Marshall, Xerri and Heath (assume Hunter will be delisted) which looks pretty good to me.

Peter Ladhams would have been a good "in" but obviously beyong St Kilda's means to meet the asking price.

The interesting thing about ruckmen is that clubs can really only have a maximum of 3 good ones on their list because unless they can get a regular game they're going to seek to go elsewhere where they can.
