Spot on

FFS seems we can't help taking in mangled players....imagine another payroll leech???

But...playing the devil's advocate on my own post, there's been players who have moved clubs and come real good after chronic injury....but it's a HUGE gamble.

Imagine if our boy from Sydney had come across and fired like we know he can...we'd be laughing, he's a gem on field ( a bit of a lad off)...

But if we can get T. Dog as a rookie on loose change maybe it's worth a risk as a back up?

Why is it a huge gamble - he’s a free agent?!

Would cost zero

Why recruit another broken down player from another club. Yes, he might cost nothing but he will consume resources and clog our list that so a younger player might miss out. To recruit Talia we will be fulfilling Einstein’s Theory of insanity. We have recruited heavily last few years, let’s go to the draft and see if we can develop some talent rather than buying it in.

Which younger player would he block from getting a game?!

Clavarino?

Joyce?? Back up at best!!!

A new draftee (and 18yo key back won’t play for three seasons in the seniors!!

Allison?? Not a chance

Compared to Joyce, Talia is a dual AA key defender.
If he plays 30-40 games at the club
- or even 20 games

Or less than Dan. If he was ok Adelaide would keep him. I would rather see our effort go in development of a younger player from the draft than someone who is cooked or is too old, too fat and too slow.

Who cares

He’s a delisted free agent who would be on a pretty much base contract

Not sure the risk

He just replaces Carlisle

Really wouldn’t bother me if he played no games…

Or he could play 50+ like Michael Gardner did after missing 3 full seasons from 06-08 and be an important defender free up Howard and Wilkie

It’s not just how good Talia would be, it’s how much better Howard, Wilkie, Highmore and Coffield might be?!

Gardner made others better, Ryder does the same

Marshall makes King better

There is a flow on effect

Yeah, just what we need, another senior citizen on the sidelines adding to our culture and on big coin. Physically cooked and too old. No benefit to this whatsoever. Gardiner was not physically stuffed and neither is Paddy. There is the difference.

I tend to agree
Not sure we are flag contenders in a year two anyway tbh I think we need some midfielders to jump in and help Steel a ruck to support Marshall and we’d need all that to fall into place immediately for the 2 yrs we might from Talia

Talia's actual injury that initially sidelined him some sort of knee injury which was then followed by foot surgery. He didn't play at all this year and 14 games last year. Prior to that he was remarkably resilient.
Hardly missed a game from 2012-2019.

https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players ... Talia.html

That said, his value is what his capacity is now, not what it was. And I don't like our history of importing older players on past reputation without due medical diligence. It's got to be a drag on the rest of the list, having ageing crocks around that can't get on the park.

Agree with BM it’s a no brainer
Unless he has failed a medical he is exactly what we need
He won’t cost much, we don’t have a stopper in the wings, our back line is unbalanced on key forwards, we need another big
We have list spots, get it done

Can see the argument for bringing him in. Just sticks in my throat - the idea of importing another injured older player to fill a hole. Key question is just how injured is he? Can he get back to being a regular player? He's 30. Mehhhhhh......look for a younger option without the injury history and Crows baggage.

If we don’t want to be a contender, what is the point of the last two seasons - who said we cannot be a contender?!

And don’t get gun shy and worry about media and public perception stay the course - don’t be soft.

We are not REBUILDING now - so not pumping games into draftees

Adelaide are which is why they have not retained Lynch or Talia

IMO Talia is a NO BRAINER!!!

Would automatically come in and make us better

Too old - he is 29
To fat - a more professional player you wouldn’t find
Too injured - every player at some stage gets injured

If we are too scared to take Talia as a FA that embarrassing IMO

Hands up if you think we have not at least spoken to Daniel and or his management and taken steps to see if he fits our needs?

We have not been mentioned as speaking to Talia

I believe we are once bitten twice shy

Which IMO is a mistake

Hannebery was riddled with constant soft tissue injuries - I still would have done that trade (turns out a mistake)
Frawley was 34yo - pulled out of retirement and tore a hamstring off the bone and did a shoulder in a marking contest. Worth a shot.
McKernan meh 😒 he was a pure back up as was Hunter

What about these recruits
Crouch - very good
Jones - missed through injury, but when he’s played he’s been very good
Butler - excellent in 2020 and ok in 21
Ryder - valuable
Howard - very good
Hill - a bit disappointing but had played every game and been serviceable

Don’t be scare to take calculated risks and bring talent or experience through the door!

I must have missed the email that went out with who we had spoken to!

If we had spoken with Talia

It would have been reported in the media

Very rare for a trade or FA to happen without a media report prior

Still got to pay a minimum of $80,000 i think , and to be fair he’s had ankle problems since he was a junior….and having not played for Adelaide for quite awhile and no other club wants him for free could mean he’s shot

We can talk to Talia all we want, if he doesn't want to leave Adelaide then the club will have to look elsewhere.

Which it no doubt has, we just don't know the details.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I am fascinated
Are there people on here that don’t think we should recruit talia?
He would be a no brainer

If he doesn’t want to leave Adelaide (find that extremely hard to believe give his comments when first delisted) or has failed a medical then fine

Otherwise ask yourselves this, if Howard goes down who plays full back?

It’s not Wilkie highmore or Webster
We have a huge hole there

Apart from whether or not he actually wants to move from Adelaide, it depends on his medical status, which it seems is at best speculative. I have no idea what his physical condition is, but if he's not going to be reliably fit, then I don't want him. I don't want to see another player recruited, in the last quarter of his career, taking a spot on the list and sitting on the sidelines because his mind is willing but his body isn't. If a player is going to be recruited to fill a specific role we need to be sure he can do it. Speculative bets on older players with significant injuries I have had enough of.

We picked up McKernan and Frawley last year, already had Carlisle on the list.
Surely he can take one of those spots on a 1 year minimum contract or even a rookie.
