Nothing to do with our midfield Dud?
Our midfield is ordinary, but you would think the 3 talls we have in defence already would be able to take the mighty Essendon forward line…

Oh, and Wright hadn’t kicked a goal since round 9, so fair play to Howard having to deal with a bloke in top form…

Look I know you don’t understand his role and he’s your target.
Again, isn’t his role to defend?

His man had the most goals, goal assists and score involvement for the game. This is the same bloke who hasn’t kicked a goal since round 9.

It was so bad they had to move Membrey back.

Watch the game maybe try to learn the game.

One goal was when Sinclair centerd the ball the other he outmarked another Saints player as Howard was back on Phillips.

TV vision from behind goals of a Howard kick-in.
Ross wavng arms callìng for it.
Hind was maybe 30m behind Ross, to the right (Ross's left).
As Doug's eyes dropped to watch ball onto foot, Hind accelerated to Ross (Dougs had telegraphed the kick as his lanky frame moves like a giraffe)
Ball went perfectly straight to Ross, sadly, Hind managed to bump Ross just enough to mark it.
Kicked a behind, luckily.

Point being?
Howard's kicking out can be suspect. Telegraphs his kicks.
He shoulda been smarter and kicked to the left (our left, on the screen, which is Ross' right) as there was many metres of clear air.

Backmen , especially now days are only as good as the pressure on the ball coming in and last night it was rubbish.

Why does he even take the kick outs?

Sinclair, Hill, NWM all seem like better choices

Port supporters saw Howard as ‘flakey’ and weren’t sorry he left…I think you can throw in petulant!
Wilkie is clearly our best defender and should always get the best forwards, no matter what size they are.

Where do you think the direction to do so comes from?

You reckon Enright just sits there going why is he peeling off or why has he let Peter Wright outside 50?

Here’s a left field thought for you. Give Joyce a game and try Howard as the second key forward. Structurally we could do with one of those.

Won’t happen, but it’s a thought anyway
