Depends if he is rich enough to lose it. For some people 500k is like the rest of us losing $500. A bit painful, but manageable.

Just wondering how many time he has bet against the saints in the last few weeks.

I would be going out and placing 1m on collingwood so you either come out with 2m for saints win on 1.5m outlay (3m saints less 1m coll loss) or break even (1.5m collingwood win less 1.5m outlay)

Would think he would try and offest it by some sort of layoff bet. Of course, not sure how he could get 500K value from betting on the Pies without virtually betting that much.

If I stood to win $3 mil if we won, I reckon I'd offer $1 mil of it to those who play, if they win, just for a bit of extra incentive.

Not nervous at all.

It was explained to me by someone who understands punting that the guy just recognized a team that was being offered at a ridiculous price adn took up the opportunity.

This is how it goes.
If St Kilda wins, he stands to win $3,000,000

Somewhere in the last couple of weeks he's probably made more bets, laying off:-

Backing Geelong for the flag
Backing WB for the Flag
Backing Collingwood for the Flag

all at smaller odds than theose he got for St Kilda.

BUT he only wagered enough on the other teams to win back what he's bet on St Kilda (or maybe a little more)
Therefore he is covered completely this week.

If the Saints win he will probably net 1-1.5 million
If Collingwood wins, he will probably win a few hundred thousand (after getting back his 500,000 bet on the Saints)


It was purely an simply a matter of mathematics becasue teh Saints odds were too generous at that point of the season.
