Absolutely hilarious. Saying his new teammates and Malthouse all had to go. :D :D
Realised that Carlton was interested in him but did not want to come to Melbourne from WA.
Can't refuse a club drafting him.
So tried the next best thing, bag the club that is interested in you.

How has Stanley?

Basically it is disappointment against massive potential.

And there was plenty of angst about Stanley being traded.

I do not understand you question.

From my perspective it has to do with Stanley thus

1) we trade Stanley to Geelong for pick 21
2) Many were not happy with losing Stanley while many others thought we got overs for him @21
3) Many feel Stanley has not lived up to his potential
4) Goddard has been touted as a 10 ten pick earlier in the year, by all good judges the 196cm backman could be a 10 year CHF with he ability to swing up forward.
5) Again many good judges thought he was a steal @ 21
6) As for your original question it is silly, of course he has not "proved" himself at AFL level. It is basically just a smartarsed question.

Same token Stanley, the player traded for #21 has never proven himself as an AFL player.

Like all draftees it is potential only, but as there was angst and anger over the Stanley trade, the points laide out above may allay some of that angst.

if you cnat understand the above it is your problem nobody elses.

Blues however pulled a surprise and went for Blaine Boekhorst passing over both Laverde and Goddard.

So thank you Blues :)

I am very happy to have gotten Goddard at 21

Blaine Boekhorst was rated a "smokey" but Carlton used a first round pick 19 on him.
They had picks 28, 60, 63, 71, 82, 87 still up their sleeves.
Was anyone else going to take Boekhorst before 28 ?
Boekhorst is from WA but neither Fremantle or West Coast had a pick between 20 and 27.

Carlton left Jayden Laverde & Hugh Goddard both still available to Essendon
Essendon could only take one.
They took the forward midfielder Laverde leaving us Hugh Goddard.
I can imagine Brendon Goddard giving the Essendon recruiters a mouth full or at least a jab of Thymosin Beta 4 for ignoring Hugh.
funny really...because hugh trained with them last preseason....maybe they saw something that they didn't like....
i suspect it is because Mick is not looking beyond 2015. Picking Blaine at 19 is for the here and now.

surely they could have picked a kid at 19 and got BB at 28?
id be furious if i was a blues fan.
Don't you just love it, Con? Even three consecutive number one picks have not helped them. Prepare for the big nosed, plastic gangsters to storm Princes Park, with pitchforks and torches, ready to burn down the Robert Heatley stand. After that they can microwave their membership cards. Hilarious!

I really don't understand their logic with their #19.

Surely he would have been there at #28.

One of the draft experts reckoned he would have been there @ #60 or what ever they had in the 60's.

Regardless we got Goddard and nearly got Laverde.

My God that would have been the heist of the draft.

Weird happenings down @ Carlton

I rated Hugh Goddard as Pick #13.

Therefore, I think we effectively traded Rhys Stanley for Pick 13.

No dramas with that from my end. Stanley is 24, after all, and has scarcely been able to contribute on a regular basis, even if 2014 was his best year.

Hopefully within two years, Goddard is a regular in our best 22 and holding down a key defensive post.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Can't write an essay on my phone, but you might want to start with getting the details of the trade correct.

I hope Goddard's a champion but at this stage he's just the guy who was passed over 20 times. No better or worse than any other pick 21 over the years.

The general consensus amongst recruiters I know was that he would've been there until the end, so they could've got him with their last pick. There was a thought that he would be taken in the rookie draft. What were they thinking? Laverde is a miss they'll live to regret, I think. Still, anything bad that happens to the scum is good for the competition. They will be competing strongly for the wooden spoon next year.

I thought we would get him with our third rookie pick. That was the WTF moment of the draft. Like nabbing Clint Jones at 19.

yes and Sam Fisher was the 53th best in his draft and Robbie Gay the 55th best, and Jack Watts the best.

so it stands to reason that Goddard will be exactly as good as his draft selection will place him in years to come.

Excellent examples based on years of watching these guys play AFL.

But I still can't see why I'd be any more excited about the Stanley trade today than I was 24 hours ago.
