Re: Jack Billings is he ok.
30 minute thrillers was on fox footy last night and I watched JB get us over the line in a match winning performance against the Dogs middle of last year. He's a pretty humble and reserved sort of kid and you don't normally see any celebration after a goal from him, but he was animated when he kicked his last goal and the goal to put us a goal ahead with only a few minutes left.
I also looked at some of his stats this year when we beat Pies and Dees and also outplayed Hawthorn and the Kangas. Although JB was not kicking as many goals from rounds 3-7 he's certainly lifting his disposal numbers and he was among our best in most of these matches.

What made him such a high pick? Just asking as he doesn't win a lot of his own ball, not overly quick or tall. Great kick but I can't see what made him so highly rated?

Re: Jack Billings is he ok.
"A medium-sized forward who is brilliant on his preferred left foot and particularly damaging in and around the goals. Billings is a versatile player who can also play through the midfield and off half-back where his awareness and vision can prove pivotal. He kicked three goals in the last round of the Under-18 Championships against Vic Country to secure All-Australian honours for the second time after a brilliant 2012 campaign as an underage player. Apart from his elite kicking, Billings combines a strong overhead mark with an ability at ground level to make life difficult for opponents. Set to become another member of the large Oakleigh Chargers AFL alumni, Billings is expected to go top five in this year's draft."PremiershipSaint wrote:What made him such a high pick? Re: Jack Billings is he ok.
Hasn't been overly damaging so far baring a few games, should change as our midfield improves to allow him more time and space to use the ball but not the type of player you use a top 3 pick on IMO.Gershwin wrote:"A medium-sized forward who is brilliant on his preferred left foot and particularly damaging in and around the goals. be careful of making any perceived criticism.... next minute you'll be told that youve called someone hopeless... or better still the 'what do you expect, 4 goals a game?'
never labelled him hopeless
never said he need to win the b&f or be AA
just that id like to see more... he is not showing anything special atm... just going through the motions.

Actually, I'd clarify it that I aren't necessarily disappointed - but by this time next year if we weren't seeing special or more performances like the Bulldogs game one, I would be disappointed.

Re: Jack Billings is he ok.
Hard to imagine him looking more uptight than he already does. Probably will playing for Sandy this week. Doesn't look to be enjoying his footy. Hope he is happy at the club.
Maybe he could be the non playing emergency this week. That should cheer him up.

EMERGENCIES
15 Jack Billings
30 Brodie Murdoch
40 Jack Sinclair
With Sandy playing only just prior, at least one emergengency is likely to be kept back in case of an injury in the warm up.
You would imagine though that of the three that the club would most want Billings to play with Sandy. Sinclair was an emergency and so did not play last week.

He certainly has the potential. But we all know that it isn't always realised. Too many examples of that to forget it.MC Gusto wrote:I have no doubt that he will be A grade. Baring injury of course.

Ok I will say it...
Why is it kids paying the price for smashings?
West Coast = Acres
Adelaide = Billings
Meanwhile some horrible seniors performances are tolerated

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/n ... 01dd4ec39cST KILDA captain Nick Riewoldt says young playmaker Jack Billings has been dropped this week ‘for his own good’.
Billings, a former No. 3 draft selection, is averaging a career-high 20.6 disposals per outing from 10 games this season.
Although his numbers appear reasonable, Riewoldt backed Alan Richardson’s decision to send the left-footer back to the VFL this weekend.
“He’s had a frustrating period,” Riewoldt told Triple M on Friday evening.
“He had an ankle (injury) a couple of weeks ago and we brought him back in. In hindsight he probably wasn’t AFL ready. He will play VFL this week but that’s probably more for Jack’s own good to give him that extra bit of time to get his body up to the standard it needs to be at to give great effort every week.”
Although the 20-year-old’s pure stats are decent, he laid just one tackle in his side’s crushing loss to Adelaide last Sunday.

Re: Jack Billings is he ok.
Maybe he got ahead of himself after reading this, interestingly Kolodjashnij has had an ordinary year as well.
THE AFL players have voted St Kilda's Jack Billings and Gold Coast's Kade Kolodjashnij as the youngsters most likely to become stars in 2016.
Players from every club were surveyed to reach the decision as part of the AFL Players' Top 50, brought to you by Mars. In an open race, Billings garnered 12 per cent of the players' vote as their tip for 2016's breakout star, edging out Kolodjashnij (11 per cent).

No he's happy enough. Just lacking confidence and obviously not playing well . He'll bounce back, don't lose the faith.8856brother wrote:Hard to imagine him looking more uptight than he already does.
