White Winmar wrote:That's the likely scenario. For me Marchbank would be the priority, but the influence of SOS on him may see Carlscum end up with him. The GWS claims he is part of their future, and of course they'd say that. I think he's a gun and would come relatively cheaply in terms of salary. We have to remember he was pick 6 in his draft, so GWS will use that as leverage. He wants out. As does Steele.

The arguments on here that Steele, Marchbank and Steele are "casts off who can't get a game" is nonsense. GWS has more than twenty first round draftees on its list. How would you like to be in that competition for a spot? These guys have preseasons under their belts and are ready to go. Look at what Hawthorn, Sydney and the hillbillies have done with recycled players. It's the new rebuild model. Mine what's on offer at other clubs. It overcomes being disadvantaged when it comes to a lack of early picks. Who's won the last five flags? That's right. Hillbillies, swines and dorks. I think there's something in that for all of us, don't you?
Great post.
Steele and Marchbank are purely victims of their age and timing.
GWS are currently the 4th best comp and will probably be number 1 next year.
Hard to get a game when you are only 20-21 and everyone in the side is 24-27yo and a first round pick.

Can someone describe Lachie Weller a little bit? Wingman? Nice boot? Fast? Is he a better version of someone we already have or a different sort altogether? Would be great to have a pair of brothers playing for us!
I don't understand the fuss to be honest.

I think we overrate Mav on here, and I think we're clearly overrate his brother. Seems like just an average player for mine with no glaring tools in the bag.
You're kidding right?
Mav's pressure at the contest set the benchmark for the team this year.
He's an impact forward who works almost as hard as Rooey as getting back behind the ball when needed.
Lachie's an absolute star and i can confidently guarantee he will be elite off half back or wing.

Mav's pressure is excellent. Works hard.

But with the pill, he's only a battler. I mean 15 disposals a match an 0.7 goals isn't much to write home about. He adds value to the team no doubt, but 15 touches a week at 73% efficiency for a 25yo is hardly earth shattering.

As for Lachie, seriously? How on earth could you guarantee that based on what we've seen so far?

He's not overly quick, not an overly great user of it, not big, not fantastic overhead and only averages 14 touches a week. Granted he's still developing and will improve - but nothing jumps out at me in his game.

Can't disagree any more strongly with your assessment.
Mav kicked 24 goals from 22 games so not sure where you got your average from?
For a small forward 24 goals is right up there.
lachie I know for a fact is the 3rd fastest over 50 metres at the club and if you google him he still holds Tassy under age sprint records.
He's lightening fast. His skills are silky on both sides and some of his run down tackles showcased his speed.

lintonstreet .. good post!
I didn't realise Lachie was that quick - thanks for pointing that out. This being the case then, Lachie could be (or could quickly develop into) the outside midfielder that we would be looking for to balance things up in our midfield?

Re lachie Weller check our what the coaches say:

Pre 2014 national Draft, some as you'll read below had him as the best mid in the draft ahead of Petraca.

So do you think the club should go for Lachie Weller for Longer?

Did you read my post - 'Freo will never trade him'.
ie. can never be mutually consenting if one party is not consenting!

Holmes signed up - on the senior list. Does this mean a potential trade in the wind - Billy Longer perhaps?

Unfortunately I did read your post and it's time I can't get back.

Either prove it or get your hand off it and stop making ridiculous and absolute staments using words and phrases like:

"I can guarantee"

"Never"

Etc.

Like the rest of us, you can guarantee SFA.

So true but everything coming out of Freo is that Lachie is Ross L's favourite.
And we know how much he loves his favourites.

Is there really a scenario that would see a club trade one of its three best players who were all under say 25?

Of course there is... Just that most often the price would be too high and not worth it.

Example, Nick Riewoldt circa 2004 untradeable right?
West Coast offer you Judd in his prime + Cox in his prime and to emphasise the point, + their first rounder

Anyone really going to say you wouldn't take that deal?

Obviously that trade would never happen because it's insanely biased... But the point is that every player has a price
