I foresee a hideous "if only" thread next year when we consider some young gun Freo end up taking with pick 10!

I think a few on here were absolutely invested in Acres unfulfilled potential - he is now Freo's problem!!

Paid overs in $ offer and trade but that's what a shitkicker club like the saints have to do to attract talent.

Happy to secure Hill and Howard.

This is true.
Yes Freo probably bent us over, but in the end we got a great player in his prime.

We preserved our first rounder next year.

Lost a second and fourth in a very compromised weak draft.

This was the year to do it.

We won the Port deal, probably lost the Freo one. In the end we have improved our list. Good luck to Blake Acres, hasn't worked out for us , so no point continuing to pay for him. At least we clear cap space.

4th rounders don't matter by the way.
If you can't get the bloke you want at pick 67 or whatever , then you haven't done your homework.

keep bruce and its a win all round, rather he than jones as we need a chf next year. if so our trades show:
in -
howard - could be a very good fb for us. yay.
hill - no doubt we need him, elite? yay.
butler - depth, can we trade next years third rounder for him? ok.
ryder - depth, mentor for roma. ok.

out -
steven - useless to us this year and next year. sad but yay. hope he's happy there.
acres - fringe on far too much coin. ok.
pick 6 - no idea, but recent history would suggest a fair bit less than hill. ?

next year we keep our only semi decent pick in a very tainted draft. yay.

if we get jones for bruce then the outcome doesn't change too much - stronger in the middle, weaker up forward. but with him acres would be likely playing at sandy.

so i'm okay with it all. i don't think hill is as good as we think. no fyfe to supply him, but no doubt a massive upgrade on the likes of newnes/sinclair/acres type winger.

Paid massive overs in my opinion.

I am not happy with losing Acres. It could come back to haunt us.

Like it has been the last 3 or 4 years?

Not sure what Freo are going to get out of him that we couldn't

Acres is too slow in the mind. Cant change that. He'll never be elite.

Bruce for 32 and 51

Jones and Butler - WELCOME!!!

GREAT TRADING SAINTS!!!

The two late picks - 58 and the future fourth - are probably going to be worth less points than the gap between 6 and 10. They may even wind up being worth less than the third Freo gave us back. Personally, I think we piled up enough mediocre stuff that the sheer volume makes it looks like Bell did better than he actually did.

Acres will probably get better as he has a new coach and ours couldn't get the best out of him.

As for hill we need better players and he instantly is one of if not our best player. I'd take him and Dougal and Ryder over pick six Blake acres and stuvo who is passed his best
I don't want Jones at the expense of Bruce but if it happens it happens.

Say what you like but to me this trade will be a sucess. A new key back, an old ruck veteran to impart knowledge and take some heat off Rowan. , Some speed up forward how can find the goals and there is more to come

How did Feo bend us over?

They lost a 3 time premiership player and arguably the best wingman in the comp whom they desperately wanted to keep - and only got Acres, pick 10 and a bunch of shitty draft picks next year in a compromised and weak draft.

If Hill is worth all that what value would you put on Bont or Fyfe or Cripps?

Surely we wouldn’t have done this unless we have a commitment from Sydney re Jones and Richmond re Butler.

Ditto. Some here talk about easing salary pressure. Well, I would much rather a strong marking, contested ball, aerobic player in Bruce on 800K a year instead of an injury ravaged, soon to be 29 yo Hannebery and a downhill skier who can't win his own ball and waits for the easy ball, in Billings.

The Bulldogs have made a great decision in their quest for another flag. Bruce will be extremely valuable to their team structure. Good on Beveridge and co.

I keep having this nightmare that when the AFL updates the club lists Freo will have tricked us and written in small font "Stephen"

I'm sick of seeing those who are saying this may come back to haunt us....really.?? the draft is a always a gamble and that's how gambles work ffs.

I am going to be haunted by the last 8 years.
and you can take that to the bank.

We have drafted for the past 7 years and it hasn't worked as planned, looks like they needed to change things up

Ain't that great he's gonna do us the favour of "helping us out". Just the sort of commitment we need. Exactly same commitment as I fear from ratten. Blow-ins.
