Was hoping to see some up and coming midfielders showing some spark- none. Looks like we will again rely heavily on ageing players. Although he didn't do much, Lee could be OK for us. Playing in that heat, the younger guys will just run out of puff. I'll just put the glasses down until Round 1.

I am not suggesting it wasnt a free I am telling you there is no way it was a free. And no I am not Jeff but a Saints supporter who watches game with 2 eyes.

Jee-sus stop bickering you clowns!

First game lots of positives - second bit of a write off, considering backing up against a fresh team in 38 degree heat.

What I will say from the 2nd game though - fresh players that disappointed were Jimmy Webster (miles off it) and Seb Ross (severe lack of intensity, Newnes is miles ahead of him).
Tom Lee improved as time went by.

1st game: Newnes all class, Siposs excellent, Hickey good, Gwilt back to 2011 form fingers crossed, Curren was good when he was near it (which albeit wasn't much), the small forwards excellent, Ledger disappointing, Armitage good.

yeah second game was pretty woeful, hope we have more in our bag of tricks than the half back switch...

Didnt see much from the new draftees.... apart from TDL, Lee and Hickey...

Glad we won one at least

What a waste of time that second half was. Any team playing in these conditions won't get anything out of it.

We had a stinker last year as well in the preseason against WCE...

Hopefully the preseason plays out a little kinder than last years.

agree with the assessment.

Port also fielded a near full strength team too, so that second game was useless as a guide....

Went home in the second half.

Tom Lee did however get into the game and looked a lot better as the third forward up the ground, rather than as a key target.

Let's see if Port can back up in the heat, I expect them to fade badly in their second game.
The only way any team was going to win 2 games in this heat was to win the first, and have the break before playing a second.
Therefore, Adelaide was in the best position at the start of the round robin roster.
Then again, one does have to question why the AFL's heat policy was not enforced. Surely there should ahve been longer breaks between games, in my mind at least a half hour. One has the wonder if the AFL's is concerned regarding the players welfare, or how much Foxtel spent to get the broadcast rights.
If this we're the Australian Open, except for games on the closed roof stadiums, games would have been suspended until the temperature dropped a few degrees.
But then Professional Tennis is a professionally run sport.
I hope, but it won't happen, that the club has a real go at the AFL for the scheduling of this fixture.

I doubt the tennis would have been called off. Also I think you may find we had a flight to catch so we may not have wanted the breaks extended.

I'd still expect port to win, because they are fielding a side much closer to full strength than either the saints or crows. And the crows have already played a game in the heat, so they won't be as fresh as port were against us.

Dunell was a disappointment.

While early days yet, he goes ok at VFL level but has not stepped up the extra he needs to at AFL level.

Can't read anything from either game. Crows missing half their team then we were not to mention playing against a fresh team in 38 degree heat. Silly format

Maybe he should upmire our games. Then again, some would still be complaining.

Tom Lee definately not worth pick #12
Seb Ross - must be related the non-talented side of the Watson family.
Jimmy Webster - the less said the better!
#34 - aside from dropping sitters in the backline, didn't really show that much.
Tom Ledger - Awareness and decision making poor.
TDL -OK
Hickey - Will be a good pick up.

Worrying times ahead.

Wow - you can tell that from a practice game in mid Feb on a 38 degree day

Let's not forget that it was 38 degrees playing against two local teams.

Seb Ross really concerns me he looks slow & never shows any sort of commitment. Early days but at least Webster commits to contests !
